CHAPTER 2

JUSTIN GULF

I laughed. Who would have thought, a famous surgeon like Dr. Ritz, is wearing an apron and cooking for his wife?

He glared at me.

"Don't look at me like that. I know i look funny as of the moment, but I don't have a choice."

I nodded and asked, "Where is my beloved best friend?" And before he could answer me, i heard a voice in the living room shouting.

"I'm in here!"

I laughed and proceeded to her. There I saw Bai, sitting comfortably in the sofa, munching a box of cupcakes. So much for dieting.

"Hey there my whale best friend, how is it going with baby whale inside you?

She stop eating and look sharply at me.

"Stop it you bully! You know it's not me who wants to eat it, it's him!"

I raised my hand to inform her i surrender. I just scoot near her, and place my hand on top of her bulging tummy.

"A few days from now is your due date. Is everything ready?" I asked.

"Yes best friend, you don't have to worry a thing. But i want you to be here when i started laboring."

"Of course I will. I have to see baby whale when he pops out."

She shrieked and smack my hand touching her belly. I put it back and start caressing it again. And i know, she saw the emotions pass through my eyes.

"You've been thinking about him, do you?"

I stilled for a moment, and smiled sadly at her.

"You know my feelings for him Bai, it's been seven years. But I can't let myself move on. I keep on thinking, what if I decided to choose the other option and just go with the flow. Will i be happy? or will I suffer? I have so many what if's that i don't know what to think anymore. "

She just sighed and hugged me. "I know my friend, that's why we are here, Ritz & I, we will help you move on slowly okay?"

I nodded while I hugged her. Then a pair of arms added to the hug.

"Ritz, don't you have clients today? I think you should start showering because you smell like barbecue."

He laughed and told us to stop and drama because the lunch is ready. So i help the pregnant whale, i mean my bestie to stand up and led her to the kitchen. The lunch is ready and we started to eat.

BOTH Bai and i are just resting on the sofa a few hours after lunch. Ritz is out because he has client to attend to. I offered to stay with her since I know he will be out. Plus it's a hangout time for us. reminiscing the high school and college days.

I took interior designing, Ritz took medicine, while Bai decided to take business ad, while Him, is engineering. We are from different faculties but we always made time for each other. After graduating, the roller coaster of situations starts to happen. Priorities were change, time and attention became reduced. Telling each other to stay strong with the relationship is easy, but maintaining it with all the hindrances, it's hard.

I was snapped out of my reverie when i saw a hand waving in front of me. Then i saw Bai looking at me intently, then smile after a few seconds. I was so drown with what i am thinking i didn't realize, Ritz is already home and they were telling me that i can go home now.

I apologize and just reason out that I've been thinking of the works i left at home. So i grabbed my keys and phone, hugged them both and walked to the door.

It's already past 7 when I reached home. Mom is already in her room. Tomorrow is Sunday so.she will sleep early tonight because she will be early for her offering at the temple.

I just walk straight to.my room, changes into my sleepwear, goes back to kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee. I need to finish the design for Mrs. Rungtiva's kitchen. I began stroking my colored pencils at the sketch.

I didn't notice the time when I heard my phone ring. Ritz is calling me. At 3am? Why? Then, my eyes grew wide and immediately answer the call.

"Hey Ritz! What's the matter?"

"Hey Gulf! Bai is on labor! But she doesn't want to go to the hospital unless you're with us!"

"What? Lemme talk to her." After a few seconds I heard Bai on the other line.

"Bestie huhu. It hurts!" She exclaimed.

I rummaged through my closet and found a decent shirt and pants. While talking to her, I am changing my clothes.

"Okay best friend, just like how we practice, breath in, breath out, okay? One two three."

I heard she did what I told her, then I said "Let Ritz take you to the hospital okay? Just to save time. I promise I will meet you there."

I want to thank heavens she finally said yes. When she cut the line I hurried to my mom's room.

"Mom? Mom?"

She sleepily open the door and look at me, confused.

"What's the matter baby? Why are you dressed up?"

"Mom, Bai is in labor, I have to be there. She doesn't want to go to the hospital unless I'm there. "

Her became wide at the information. She pushed me to the door. "Hurry up! Hurry up! Be sure to drive safe okay?"

"Mom please close all doors and windows, and lock your doors. I'll call you after she gave birth okay? I love you. "

I drive fast but safe and reach my destination. BMC was one of the best hospital that we have here and I am sure they will take good care of my best friend. I run to the delivery room to check her status. As per Ritz, Bai didn't know or even feel that she was already in labor a few hours ago. Shes currently 9cm when they reached the hospital that's why she goes straight to the delivery room.

Ritz and I was pacing back and forth when we heard a loud cry of a baby and a few minutes after, her doctor comes out carrying the news: It's actually a girl! When I look at Ritz, he was just standing there, mouth open and with wide eyes open.

I laughed and smacked his head.

He was back from daydreaming and dance happily hugging me saying it's a girl. He then goes to the admitting section to admit Bai. I told him I'm just going to get us food for Bai might be hungry when she wakes up. He agreed and even give me his card.

I was walking to the hospital entrance when my eyes caught something...

More like someone.

He was holding a pregnant woman's hand on the stretcher and by the looks on his actions, she was comforting the pregnant woman.

I felt my heart sunk.

Is he married? Is that his wife?

I have so many questions, but I am afraid of the answers. So I  tried so hard to avoid his eyes and went the other way for him not to see me.

I think he is back.
