Lana POV
Percy and I rushed over to the Campfire circle.
(A/N idk what it's called)
Chiron was just assembling the teams. The Red Warriors and the Blue Soldiers. It was awkward for me because I wasn't on a team, but Percy just ran over to Annabeth and put on his blue helmet.
(A/N I know that in the movie, Annabeth is on the red team, but I'm changing it up)
"Lana, please step forward," Chiron said kindly. I did what he said, and I was facing the whole entire camp. "She's going to need a team! Who will take her?"
"We'll take her!" Annabeth and Percy shouted at the same time. Well that was easy, I thought. I walked over to them and Annabeth handed me a helmet with a blue plume on the top. I put it on when Chiron shouted,
"Get to your side, and let the game begin!"
---10 minutes later---
We were all in positions, and I was stuck guarding the flag, by the river.
"If need to, use the water. Just touch it, and it will give you strength," Percy whispered. I nodded, my stomach filled with butterflies. What if I mess up? What if I mess up and the Red soldiers win because of it? I calmed myself down when Percy saw my pale face, which is extremely hard when you have tanned skin.
"Hey, calm down," Percy reassured me. "You'll be fine. Tell you what, if you hide in the tree behind the flag, no one will see you and you get a chance to use that new bow of yours."
I just nodded and said "Thanks."
I turned and climbed the tree. That's when I heard a battle cry, and saw Percy with Annabeth leading the way.
---5 minutes later---
I sat there for what felt like hours.
I had already activated my bow. The arrow quiver just appeared on my book. And, apparently, it came with a dagger too. The bow itself was silver. The tips of the arrows were silver as well, and the dagger was silver. Wow, I thought, Artemis must REALLY like silver.
While I was busy looking at the flag, I didn't realize that the Ares cabin was sneaking up behind me. While I looked at the flag, one of the demigods gave a battle cry, so I jumped and fell to the ground, breaking my ankle. I yelled.
"Well, I knew that with Percy around I couldn't do the newbie ritual with you, but now that he's not here, I can do something else," one of the Ares kids said in a bored tone. She was buff, and had a spear, so I knew that I couldn't run.
"Clarisse?" One of the Ares kids spoke up. "Um, I don't think that we should do this. I'm just saying that because you remember the last time you tried to get a child of Poseidon."
"Oh, she doesn't even know how to use her powers like Percy does. So this should be no problem," the girl, Clarisse, said confidently. They all ran at me, with Clarisse throwing her spear. She appeared to not be aiming at me directly, my she did get disarm me of my bow, forcing me to draw my sword. But, instead of fighting, I made a smart choice of running towards the river.
Boy, that was a bad idea.
There were ten more Ares kids waiting for me there. So, I decided to wing it and start fighting.
I managed to knock down two of them, but as soon as I did that, they got right back up. I was soon disarmed, with my helmet knocked off. About 3 Ares kids grabbed me from behind, and held me as still as they could with me thrashing around. Clarisse walked up to me confidently, and said,
"That wasn't so hard, boys. I actually don't even think that you are a real daughter of Poseidon."
That got me EXTREMELY mad. I felt the stones and large sticks being lifted off the ground. The shadows were shifting as well.
Then I remembered the restrictions that u had made for myself, and I calmed down before anyone saw. What made me confused was that the shadows were still shifting.
And Clarisse did something that almost blew my cap. She flicked her spear upwards making a deep cut on my check.
I heard a yell. I saw a boy about my age jump out of the shadows, sword drawn. The next I knew, I was laying on the ground, with every Ares kid was unconscious, except for Clarisse.
"No fair!" She shouted. "You aren't even on a team!"
"Doesn't matter," someone said above me. "You shouldn't even be bullying new demigods. Now get out of here!"
I didn't recognize the voice, because I was too dazed and dizzy. I had hit my head when I fell.
"Hey," said the voice. "You ok?"
I shook my head, tears streaming down my face, and my ankle throbbing. The boy helped me get up, and I finally saw his face. He had olive skin, with raven black hair, and pale skin. His eyes were black, with no emotion in them. I winced as I stood on my ankle.
"Broken ankle?" The boy asked. I nodded. He helped towards the flag, where I saw Percy running across the border with the red flag.
We won. We, WON!!
No thanks to me though. I was to busy fighting stupid Ares kids, and getting saved by a stranger.
Percy's face was filled with happiness, until he saw me, and his face got full with worry. He ran over and said,
"Oh my gods, Lana! What happened?"
"Um... Well I got attacked by the whole Ares cabin, broke my ankle, almost got killed, and um, he helped me," I replied, pointing at the boy who was helping support me.
"Oh. Um, thanks Nico," Percy said awkwardly.
"No problem," the boy, Nico, said bitterly. I just now noticed that he was scowling. I've got to admit, he looked cute, even with his scowl. I wonder if he ever smiles...
