Today is the day I wished never to come. The day to summon our familiar, a being who is like our partner and, to put it mildly, helps us mages, willfully in most of the cases. I didn't want a familiar because I don't want someone to do my chores for me and it would be even more embarrassing for me if it doesn't do it willingly, but Scorchdale has made strict rules for 1st year students to summon their familiar as compulsion, so I guess I will have to go through it after all.
I woke up from my bed to begin the tiring day which lied ahead, brushing my hair in front of the silicon mirrors, recently implanted in girls' dormitory. After taking a shower, I dressed myself into our college dress putting on a white shirt and a black pant which was held loose at the ends and finally the blue gown which generally helped differentiate girls, from the boys having a black one. And thus I headed towards the first class of today – 'Summoning your familiar'
Now a familiar was something you had no say in, it was assigned to you by nature itself according to your abilities and body aura, we just have to perform the ritual to summon the one most suited for us. We all gathered in huge circular room with open top which looked like a post-apocalyptic room, and was called 'the summon hall' by everyone.
"So, you nervous?" asked Eloria almost shivering from excitement.
"Yeah, I guess" I replied in a monotonous voice.
"Still hung up on that 'self-dependent' thing of yours, huh Vess?" Inquired her as she knew my thoughts being my only best friend.
"It's also about the slavery thing those creatures from another world have to go through. Although I asked Mr. Segast many times to let me pass this ritual but turns out it's a very important and mandatory one" I spoke up almost in a single breath.
"Attention here everyone! As you had been demonstrated yesterday the entire ritual of summoning, today is your turn to get your personal helper." Spoke up Mr. Segast who was the in charge of the event.
"He could at least call them our partner!" I whispered to Eloria displeased by Mr. Segast's remark.
"Oh please dude, just enjoy it, you will get used to them soon enough." She answered as soothingly as always flashing her light blonde hairs in the air as I tried to keep on a calm face despite all vexation.
"Alright the first candidate, Adellete come forward in the 'summon-circle' and hold onto the poles as demonstrated yesterday" continued Mr. Segast calling out students.
Summon-circle was an ancient holy place left by our ancestors which was considered to be rich in spiritual energy and thus helped in opening the gateways to the world where your familiar is, during a certain time period when our planet, Cassandra was supposed to be in sync with five other planets, every decade.
"Let's focus here for it's also our first time and hey, everything's going to be okay" said Eloria keeping an assuring hand on my shoulder. I nodded with a smile.
Adellete stood in the center of the holy circle with a calm and serious expression, holding onto the shaft of power, closing his eyes and reciting the spells –
attendat ad congregandum
Exaudi Domine animam meam
veni foras
Alterum dimidium meae
