In front of me sat there a male Cassandrian figure in its boxers and a black jacket on his top – quite a weird fashion, to be honest. He stared at me with is blue eyes wide opened, completely silent and still. Now was the time to make a contract with the familiar, but I stood there staring at him in awe because he looks so similar to a Cassandrian, or maybe he is a Cassandrian. I picked up the Contractor-staff placed on the handle and moved towards him slowly.
He moved backwards but the strong barrier formed by the summoning ritual stopped him from going any farther. His eyes were still wide open, as if trying to take account of the situation, observing the pointed wand in my hand he started to get up to run but I tried to ease him by moving my hand forward and making a slight cut on my wrist to release a few shards of blood, which floated in the air. Moving slowly towards the half seated human figure, I took his trembling hand and made a slight piercing on junction of wrist and palm as the blood drops floated in midair.
Mine and his blood drops began to co-revolve around each other, spinning faster and faster as they fused together forming a bright golden glowing ball of light.
"Move your hand towards the light" I whispered, clasping his trembling yet unresisting hand and pointing as to telling him to clasp the light. He followed, so did I and our hands interlocked into each other's surrounding the light as it disappeared into our bodies, making us glow brightly from within sending a surge of energy which I could feel flowing through me. As our hands still interlocked after the light faded away I helped him stand up on his shivering knees but he fell over me unconscious pinning me to the ground. Huge uproar of laughter could be heard among other students as the clouds cleared and here, I was not able to breathe properly.
Immature maniacs. Laughing at a helpless person.
'Damn you, so heavy!' As I tried to move from underneath him, his body suddenly felt light as Mr. Segast flicked his wand, making him float in midair, turning to me with stern face without any sort of emotion, "Have you made the contract?"
"Y-Yes" His stare was enough to run a chill down anyone's spine.
"Then, you may go to the revival wing to help your familiar become conscious. Eloria, you may help your friend." Said Mr. Segast, his eyes were still deep set onto my familiar, as if in a deep thought, probably thinking what a dumb familiar I had summoned to have fainted on making a simple contract.
"Yo! Let's get going" said Eloria as she approached along with Benedict, her boyfriend, putting the Cassandrian like figure on their shoulders. I tried to help but was as usual dejected by being called frail.
"So, it's quite a unique familiar you got here." Said Eloria signaling at her shoulder with her light blue eyes.
"Yeah, I didn't expected that my familiar will be from Cassandra like planet."
"But he's cute, just look at his unconscious face." exclaimed Eloria.
Slightly irritated at her compliment Ben spoke up, "You think he will be able to help you like other familiars. He seems kind of... normal."
"Hmm, we will know his specialties once he's awake." I said with a straight face.
We reached the revival wing building with little to no patients around and checked into one of the rooms, as we were told to wait as the healing potion was being prepared. I decided to wait as Eloria parted to see rest of the summoning ceremony along with Benedict.
I was lying somewhere, feeling somewhat dizzy, the recent events seemed fuzzy and more like a dream. I opened my eyes slowly to find myself in a room which I knew I had never seen and soon I realized that it was not a dream before. I stared at the ceiling having blade like ventilators as the face of a girl I had seen before, came forward as I grunted.
"Don't try to move. You were unconscious for over an hour and it seems like the healing potion helped you recover greatly." said the chestnut hair colored girl whom I mistook for an angel in a dream. But where am I and what is going on?! I got up realizing that this was not a time to be relaxed and looking around, confused, I found myself in a completely different environment from what I have ever seen.
"You see, it might sound weird but I summoned you from your world, in case if this is not your world..." she kept on spewing out words at lightning fast speed and only thing I could grasp was that I was in a different world because she was the one who opened the giant hole in the library washroom's floor just below me as I was washing my hands.
"Y-Yeah, nothing about what you said is normal" I said irritated, "Where are my glasses?" as I found they were not on my eyes.
"Huh? You came here like this only." She replied beaming brightly looking at me with her radiant hazel eyes with blue flecks, making them look gorgeous like hell!
"I see." I replied mundanely touching the scar on my nose, getting up from my bed which seemed like a liquid taking a shape to comfort me as I moved towards the circular windows tinted with green glasses, ignoring the words of caution of the girl to not get up.
I was not fully confirmed that this was not earth until I saw people flying in the cherry pink sky and the jet black trunk of trees covered by pink leaves, not a singles tree had green leaves, except the grass which was blue green. More than terrified, I was excited to explore this new place and it somehow made me feel calm, to be away from Earth, that nasty planet.
Looking out the window for quite a while trying to swallow my anxiety, I asked her name to which I got a gentle reply,
"Verylssia. Yours?"
"I'm Wilbur Taylor. Nice to meet you" I replied facing her forcing a smile.
She seemed confused as she asked, "You are rather calm for someone who came from another world and is being forced to help me out in my chores without your any say in it."
Looking back outside I replied her with a monotonous voice, "I'm used to being sent to unknown places and being used by people for all sorts of work, be it good or bad. Well that's how I was living up to now."
"T-Then your parents...." I interrupted her midway her question.
"Never seen them, are probably dead or living off somewhere by abandoning me."
"I'm sorry..." replied she with a sullen expression.
"No need to. This place seems better and so do the people" I replied with a smile on my face facing her. Though questions were basically overflowing my mind but I thought of starting from the basics.
"So Verylssia, why am I here?" I asked curiously.
"Oh I will tell you on our way to the summoning hall...again, I guess," she chuckled irritated at the thought that I didn't listen to her explanation at the first place, "Meanwhile how about you wear something decent below" she gestured at my boxers playing with her half ponytail, which I realized just now that I have been wearing them all this time, standing in front of her.
Way to make an impression!
His face went red as he ran off to hide under the sheets on his bed. All the serious aura in the room somehow disappeared as he made his innocent move as hiding his shame. I arranged for male pants of our school as he slid into them under the sheets, even keeping his face covered as I giggled to myself at such movements.
After he finished dressing we left the revival wing and started to head back towards the summoning hall as he still looked somewhat flustered clearing his throat and tugging on his jacket again and again.
"No need to shy away so much. We will be living in the same room after all this whole time" I said laughing, "but you will definitely not see me changing" I probably pouted involuntarily as I said that, not knowing how I could be so frank with a complete stranger.
Seems like forming a contract isn't just a ritual, I thought.
"Why will I be living with you?" he asked confused in his quirky voice.
"Oh yeah about that. So you see as I told you earlier you are my familiar, kind of my partner who does chores for his master as he/she says." After pausing for a while I continued, "B-But we need not act like master-familiar. We can act like friends helping out each other such as collecting certain leaves, rocks and special potions' creatures as they may be needed."
He kept staring at me dumbfounded as if looking for more details so I had to keep saying something, "or like....helping with my daily tasks.....cleaning the room- F-For which we will take shifts," I sounded so awkward, "...arranging the books.......h-help me prepare for school, I guess?" my voice kept on getting fainter and fainter as I kept on uttering dumbest of the dumb tasks chuckling nervously waiting for his reaction.
"Why would I even do all that!?" he uttered in disbelief, "What's in for me?"
Well he was not completely wrong, forcing someone to act as your partner. I was thinking of the reply as a voice broke the silence.
"She will help you survive this planet." Spoke up Eloria catching up to us.
"Who are you?" asked Wilburt.
"I am her best friend and listen here you junky piece of familiar, if you even think of disrespecting her or plotting against her, you will have to deal with me." threatened Eloria with her glare which could run down a chill anyone's spine and my familiar was no exception.
"Y-Y-Yes!" answered he in succession, mumbling to himself, "But why would I think of plotting against her?" making a 'what the hell?!' face.
"Yeah, so as I was saying, she will help you survive here, taking care of your living along with food and basic necessities...." As she was explaining he interrupted, "I will get food and all my basic necessities!" he asked with a gleam in his eyes which was almost blinding, "I am in. Take me there." he replied almost immediately, quite basic requirements for a full grown human, I thought.
We walked off towards our room as the ceremony had already finished. The whole way Eloria and I kept filling in my familiar's queries regarding this world as he turned out to be quite curious.
Eloria and I parted as I entered my room no. 5-E and finding the next big problem. There was only one bed in my room, naturally.
"I guess you can't doze off anywhere like other familiars." I asked chuckling nervously.
"Yeah, no." he replied somewhat gleefully.
I noticed his ears turning red as he smiled to himself.
"Don't get any weird ideas, you pervert!" I rebuked him almost turning red myself.
"I didn't say anything!" he protested.
"Well your face says it all" I answered staring at him as he turned his face away from me giving the same vibe of embarrassment he gave at the revival center.
"Well you can have my bed for tonight." I offered him my bed which he observed for a while, probably confused at its magical tendencies to change its shape like water to comfort you while sleeping.
"And where will you sleep?" he asked concerned.
"I will use the floor, if necessary for today and possibly arrange for something today itself as today was just to fulfil one of the prerequisite conditions before starting college – summoning a familiar." I answered swaying my fingers while explaining.
"How do you understand my language? Are they the same?" he fired again one of his queries to which I explained as how the gate also acts as a universal translator for the creatures passing through it to which he questioned,
"What about the writing?" he asked roaming around my room examining everything as if a child let loose.
"Well that needs to be learnt but as most familiars are not a human as you, there was no need. They can just communicate through their hearts." I answered his questions sitting on the bed and taking out some violet gems from the side cabinet for a bed for him.
His blue eyes gleamed at the sight of those as I explained to him, "They are the currency of this world. Greater the magical aura flowing through them, greater the value." I showed him the rest of six different colored gems starting from lowest- red gems all the way to violet gems, as he examined each one carefully.
I got up to leave the room requesting him, "Can you please clean my room as I go ask for a bed. I am dead tired mentally from all the summoning thing, so please...."
"Sure." He answered monotonously as if doing it against his will, but Eloria told me to rely on my familiar suppressing my 'God' complex so I just left for the Sleepy wing, after listening to his answer.
As I reached the wing which had a whole spherical building to itself I was shocked to find the price of an additional bed, so I tried to negotiate.
"But 90 violet gems are a lot for a normal sized bed. They are equivalent to almost twelve thousand red gems!"
And after losing the negotiation, I ended up taking the smaller version of the bed with thinner layer than my bed almost its one fourth. I thought of setting him a nice food menu to compensate. I was just walking back to my room as I saw him in the assembly ground of our college arguing with some bulky guy with blonde hair. I ran up to him for the environment around them seem rather ...less peaceful.
"You want a piece of me? Huh!" shouted the bulky man at him in anger, clenching his fist.
"Hey! Hey! What happened?" I interrupted as soon I reached in their vicinity, standing between them.
"He is your friend?" asked the bulky guy with his chubby face.
"He's my familiar. What happened?"
"Well I just asked him to let me try his clothing he is wearing and he just started insulting me saying I am bully and all." He answered pointing at the jacket he was wearing made in his world.
That guy definitely seemed like a bully and undoubtedly he did not merely asked for his jacket but tried to seize it because I saw some signs of struggling in Wilburt, but I had to avoid the fight.
"You! Apologize to him. Take back your words." I pretended to scold my familiar.
"Okay. You are not a bully..." He answered calmly closing his eyes as the blonde guy smirked. 'At least he does what I say' was what I thought before he continued speaking,
"....At least that's what your mama thought until she abandoned you and ran off with your daddy's best friend." He replied smiling to himself seeing the frustration on that guy's face.
"That's enough! Come forth Rocks!" he shouted as his familiar emerged from the ground taking the shape of golem, the size of a human.
'It's so cool' was also one of the thought passing through my mind among the others of panic and distress. Wilbur just stood there and smoothly moved behind me clutching my shoulder from behind,
"Save me, master." He said casually completely trying to hide himself behind me while glancing at him from over my shoulders.
"What! A familiar is supposed to protect his master!" as I said that he sank deeper behind me glaring that golem.
"God! You are useless! Why do I get such defective pieces?" I shouted in the air angrily. "Hey look we can negotiate. How about he gives you his jacket and...."
He interrupted me midway only to poke his head from behind to shout back at him, "In your dreams! My jacket burns when it comes in contact with stinky aliens!" and snuck his head back behind me.
'IS HE MAD!!?' I stared at his victorious face wide eyed. On meeting my eyes, his smile faded and he snuck back.
"Punch both of them!" he shouted to his familiar.
As the golem moved forward swaying its punch right at my face, I felt like being controlled from my shoulders as Wilburt moved dragging me along, dodging the punch and falling to the ground, still not letting go of my shoulders.
"And that's how you do this! In case your mama-" he was about to shout to shout something absurd again (even in the beat up state) as I covered his mouth tightly from the front.
"Again! Hit them again!" the guy was mad with fury. As we got up again to dodge his attack a water circle formed above the golem forming a circular waterfall around him and blocking him from moving, as he returned to the ground.
