After the ceremony was over, we split. I went along with benedict while Varylssia went along with Eloria, to have our dinner and that's when I met Adellete for the first time personally. Being his friend, Benedict introduced me to him and he was the type of guy to remain calm and reserved, reading a book while eating his stuffed Octopus arms.
"Hey do you know about how to operate these wands?" I asked Adellete, who nodded readily. Spells were the words which worked using our willpower. The stronger our willpower, the stronger will be the spell. There were different classes of spells consuming different amount of willpower depending on its strength. For instance 'Succendus' is a zero level spell so a small amount of willpower would do.
"However don't try them out yet. Professors only will be able to teach us to control its flow." He warned me which passed as a breeze through me. Of course I had to try it.
Exchanging pleasantries, I bid adieu to them as I was probably the only guy living off in a girl's dorm and honestly it was not something I was happy about. Vess was going to stay late so I returned to try out the new spell and the room's door was my first prey. I unlocked the door.
Taking a deep breath, I took out my dark brown wand having a 'randomly scattered capillary' texture. As I held the wand I could feel the energy accumulate inside me as I shouted – 'Succendus!'
And the gate came off the hinge.
What the...!
He said it only pushed things but it was a tornado blow! And it suddenly struck me. Controlling the flow of energy was important after all. But I was not the one to give up. I practiced continuously, again and again, failing continuously until ...Vess came in and I was thrown out of the room for blowing it away, well not thrown out. I sprinted out of the room as she shouted from behind, "Yeah go away and don't you dare come back! EVER!"
She is scary sometimes. It was not my first running off like this to escape the scolding like this so I pretty used to this, spend some time to take a stroll outside, then used to return without any sign of shame.
The grass there was special as it illuminated green at night, except for a particular area of the school where the grass was dark. Such dark patches could be found in many areas of the country. Head master Orlandous had also casually informed us not to go out there in the dark so I had decided to stay out of it until I saw a shadow of a girl going to the area amidst the forests.
The wind started to blow hard. Every time I strolled here the wind was rather troublesome but today it was on another level. It was not a normal cyclonic wind, but like a ferocious air current lifting me off the land, throwing me closer to the forest. I got up deciding to head back shedding the dirt off my clothes when I could hear someone chanting spells from the 'dark-nebulla' as the locals called it. I followed the voice taking a few steps closer. The forest was not completely dark as the grass kept it slightly visible to see except in the dark region. Once again the wind started blowing and I was inevitably swept off somewhere despite showing resistance against it.
I was recollecting the stuff my familiar had decorated on the floor mumbling complains to myself, 'Who does he think he is?'
The side stand was blown up with all my daily necessities lying on the floor, the healing potions' flask was also lying on his bed dripping the pale yellow liquid from its edge.
I muttered 'Always running off' and closed the lid of the potion placing it on the now standing but broken rack. As I found the weird handy box he brought with him from his world, which he said played 'mujic'. He told me it was broken but still wanted to keep it, maybe as a remembrance of his planet. The box reminded me that it was quite some time since he ran off.
He should have been back by now, I thought.
"Where am I?" I said to myself rubbing my head and getting off the ground, looking around the sudden darkness I was into, as a boyish voice behind me answered, "In the dark-nebulla."
"And we are here to guide you to where you truly belong." Answered the slender figure in green robes hiding his face.
"And where is that exactly?" I asked chuckling nervously at that shady character's reply.
Suddenly I could see grass flying in the air, rising from ground as it shone and got transfigured into sharp spikes, pointed at me as he continued, "To us!" and released the lighting spikes of grasses towards me.
I bolted the opposite side trying to escape the rapid attacks of the mage as the spikes grazed my arms. I grunted and continued to run looking for the light in the dark. "Your power belongs to us. It originated from our ancestors in the first place." came the voice echoing from behind as I was grazed by another shot of grass in my shin. I stumbled and fell over, getting up instantly and sprinting as fast as possible as a light source started to become visible.
"Oh no, you won't be getting away that easily!" he said calmly as I could sense the grass around me rising, ten times the quantity from before and charging at me as sharp spikes from all sides.
I screamed in agony but somehow the adrenaline in me kept me half running - half limping, as I could feel some a branch in my leg, probably pierced my shin when I fell before. He missed all my vital organs despite having me completely cornered. He doesn't want to kill me, I thought limping away as fast as I could.
"How can he still walk? I am exhausted!" shouted the mage from behind. He could not catch me without his magic because he was too far behind, so I continued to run towards the light limping on my left leg. Finally I entered the nebulla zone and fell onto the ground, feeling as if I just entered another world, again.
"Wilburt!!" I lay there on the illuminating grass, half-conscious, as I heard a distant scream, running towards me.
"V-Verylssia..." was the word I uttered before I went unconscious.
