"Let's not fight with the freshers for a bit, right Dauflax?" He said in a stone cold voice.
"B-Brother! Her familiar was the one who started it..." he tried to speak up but he interrupted, "Shut up! I don't want to hear your lame excuses!" as he shifted his attention towards us.
"Hmm, a human familiar, interesting. What are his specialties?" he asked me moving closer to me with his hands at the back.
"You mean except from cussing at others and using his master as a shield?" I answered him still irritated about my familiar's behavior.
Clearing his throat he interrupted, "You see what I did there was self-defense, because my being safe is important as I will not be able to save you... well...in future at least. It was a matter of intellig..." as he tried to explain his nonsense theory to me from behind with swift finger movement, I stomped on his foot. As he shrieked in the background, our real savior continued,
"I see they are yet to be unraveled. Take your time, no worries. I welcome you to the Scorchdale University. Myself, Denis Gosse and he my brother Dauflax Gosse. I apologize for the inconvenience he caused you."
He was quite contrary to his wild brother. I smiled and thanking him left for our dormitories. It was almost evening as the Whitstar- the white hole of our solar system- was setting creating a beautiful multicolored sky. But the feeling of being pissed at someone was new to me as the shameless fellow walked behind me whistling leisurely.
One week had passed since the summoning ceremony and we were going to have the Wand-Associating ceremony at the conference hall in two days. Everyone is supposed to prepare a small show with their familiars after getting their wands whereas I am sitting here treating mine.
"Ouch! Ouch! It hurts!" he was shrieking like a toddler as I applied healing potion to his wounds which he had gained this week.
"Stop moving so much, this potion cost me a month's allowance!" I exclaimed spraying the potion on his cheek.
"He doesn't seem much familiar like." said Eloria sitting beside me on the bed, "Will he really be of any use in times of need?" she asked a question to which I was also uncertain.
"I don't know, he did protect me a few times but in rather stupid ways. They were mostly seniors. One of them was forcing himself onto me. He came out of nowhere making strangely shocked face saying to the senior, 'Hey mister you dropped this. Seems like your crappy brain' holding a walnut, to which he was received with a punch." I explained one of his most heroic deeds he has ever done since the day he arrived.
"You could have just taken you out of there, made an excuse. He is stupid after all." sighed Eloria, while Wil looked the other way.
"Yeah, you can say that. He has taken on almost every rogue senior. Yesterday he told one senior to go pick on a bunch of trash because, and I quote, 'like mates like' and hence these bruises"
"Hey but you are unhurt right?" asked Eloria examining me.
"Y-Yeah. We can say he protected me but I don't want to be....like this" I complained to my familiar who was trying to get away from the medication.
"B-But I am alrigh-" I was about to tell her about my well-being when she casually poked my cheek with her nail which made me shriek. Loud.
"AHH! You know you have become way more violent girl than I first saw you! V-e-r-y-llsia" I complained to Vess.
"Because you grew up to be big, big nuisance and Eloria told me take some command else you will run off somewhere getting yourself killed in an alien world."
So she is the one giving her the ideas. Need to get rid of this nuisance, someday, I thought.
"What are you staring at? Dumbass!" Said Eloria with a weird look as I realized I was staring at her.
"Probably cussing me for giving your master some master-training, he he" she said mocking me.
Yeah, that's what I was doing actually. But I don't want to fight her. Her familiar already shocked me twice this week, and they say I am violent. Hypocrites.
"Anyway we need to think something of the coming party where we need to introduce ourselves." suggested Vess.
"Why don't I show them how I, an alien, am able to write your language after how I mastered it in one week?" I boasted of my idea.
"He learned our language in a week!? Do you think his power is actually his brain?" wondered Eloria.
"Oh no, no," he chuckled sarcastically, "He hasn't got any brain to have it as his specialty in the first place." answered Verylssia tugging lightly on my hair.
"I am not so dumb you know. I grew up in a library where I spent most of my time reading various books." I boasted again with a smirk on my face but neither on them seem to have interest, rather were discussing about the party introductions.
"We will just formally bow after accepting our wand." instructed Verylssia.
"Can I also have one?" I asked curiously.
"No, they are for mages only. You will not be able to use it even if you got one." She replied getting up from the bed sealing the remaining healing potion in the side rack of her bed, getting ready to go to bed. She opened the cupboard picking out her night pink colored playsuit which extended till her knees, giving me a side glare as she started to unbutton her school dress, which she hadn't changed since our casual introduction gathering at the assembly ground where we met Denis again and had a boring chat again.
Because that guy is boring.
"Yes, yes, I am leaving." I left the room as usual and instead of waiting I usually wandered off in the college to see more fascinating things every day. As I stood in the dark corridor I heard some whispers coming from down the alley. Following the whisper as I eavesdropped hiding in the side alley.
"....a human familiar?" came a rough from voice from the corridor.
"Yes, it's true and it is also possible that he is the one." said a slightly familiar voice.
"Really I am the one! I am a savior or what?" I jumped from behind the alley to find Mr. Segast and a disappearing smoke.
"Whoa! That person can turn into air!" I exclaimed in surprise.
"What are you doing here at this hour?" asked Mr. Segast slightly panicked.
"Me? Nothing, I am just occasionally kicked out of the room to give my master some privacy" I answered him winking at him.
"I see." Said Mr. Segast reclaiming his calm posture.
"So anyways, can you please arrange a wand for me too and the wand-assigning party or whatever?" I requested him gleefully.
He did not gave the same excuses of being a mage as Verylssia but instead thought something deeply rubbing his subtle and replied, "I will try to pursue the principle to arrange for an extra wand..."
As I was thanking him, he continued, "BUT! Remember you do not chose the wand. The wand choses you. So if you are compatible with any wand it respond to you by choosing you specifically."
"Oh! That's interesting. I hope I get one." As I was thanking him, Verylssia came from behind shouting,
"Don't try to roam around again today! I spend half of my night finding you because you lose your way almost every day!"
"Night." I corrected her, "Every night."
She noticed Mr. Segast as she came closer in the dim alley and bowed to him, hiding behind me as it might be considered dishonoring a teacher to attend him in your night dress. Mr. Segast departed calmly showing no change in his expressions, as she began to take me back to the room pulling on my sleeve.
"Don't roam off today please. Tomorrow is an important day." She said as I scratched my head. Then she dozed off as soon as she landed on the bed. I saw her sleeping calmly in her futon. She can be cute at times like these, no wonder seniors tried to flirt with her without knowing her crazy enthusiastic self, claiming to be independent yet wanting to depend on someone, lean on someone to support her, yet at the same time wants to maintain her pride-self of standing alone. She is so like me, yet so different. I brushed off the hair from her forehead as she snored leisurely. Tucking her properly into her futon, I also went to my bed switching off the lights by tapping a condenser like device which these people call 'the magic wick'. My bed was more like a mattress due to having lesser number of layers but was comfortable anyways, way comfortable than any place I have had on earth to sleep. Excited about tomorrow I dozed off wishing to own a wand of my own.
