I was sitting there, half-napping as he opened his eyes, laying for the second time on the revival wing's bed.
"Are you alright?" I asked shrugging away my nap.
"Y-Yes!? What happened? I still feel kind of dizzy..." he replied shaking his head.
"I went out to search for you since you didn't came back after an hour..." I was explaining as he interrupted, grinning, "So you do believe that I will come back, despite telling me not to come back, huh?"
I shook my head embarrassed, "What! Ehh? No...I....you are my familiar so it's a master's duty to protect him in time of need...that's why...umm..." trying to form words to cover the truth he just spoke so casually. I do believe I over reacted at seeing such mess of the room last night.
"M-Moving on..... I found you covered in cuts all over with dry blood, so I carried you to the revival wing..."
"Alone?!" he asked astounded.
"Is that a problem?" I glared at him with slight irritation, "And guess what, I found out your specialty last night. By the time I took you to the revival wing, all your cuts had disappeared and the only took which remained was the branch in your shin..."
"Oh yeah! The branch!" he exclaimed getting up from the bed to check his leg which was completely fine.
"Yeah... the 'branch'. What were you even doing last night? It is indirectly forbidden for anyone to even go near the 'dark-nebulla' region." I asked slightly confused.
"The memory is kind of blurred as if I was dreaming, but first how'd my leg heal so fast?!" he asked puzzled examining his left leg, lifting it in the air, swaying it freely.
"As soon as the branch was taken out the muscles started to rebuild on its own filling it like before. So yes, I think," he kept his leg on my head as I was speaking. "Hey!" I stroke away his leg continuing, "I think you may have the ability to heal quickly which was probably unlocked when we first got our wands."
"And you have been sitting by my side since then. Isn't today the first class?" he asked, strangely concerned.
"I-I... will be going now, there are s-still some lectures I can attend, as you seem fine now." I got up to rush outside. Why am I stuttering?
"Wait! I'm coming along." shouted him from behind getting into his pants and falling miserably due to the rush he was in, to follow me.
We reached the hall to attend the lecture on spells as he stopped me from opening the gate.
"What are you doing? The lecture has already started!" I panicked as Mr. Augustus could be heard from inside.
"I have mastered the spell and I will show you how to do it. Hoccus pocus, we're late
I command thee, open the gate..."
Saying that much, he spontaneously took out his wand and reciting – 'Succendus!" flicked his wand at the door as it went off blowing the gate smashing it to the front wall.
"Oops! That was twice the force than last time I guess...he he" saying so easily he chuckled and went on to introduce himself as 'The familiar of Miss Verylssia Ardour', into the now startled class.
That slimy sick son of a bitch! I might be catching his tongue after all...
As much as I wanted to punch him, I was totally embarrassed as half of the class including Mr. Augustus thought that I had blown the gate, and it was no use complaining since a master takes responsibilities for his familiar's actions. I stood there along with him listening to Mr. Augustus lecturing us both first on discipline and then continuing with the class.
As we seated he said, "Hey I'm sorry, it turned out to be like this...I thought I..."
My head was too hot to accept any apologies as I shouted at him reflexively, "Go sit somewhere else! Sit with your kind, sit alongside all those familiars!" and strangely enough he obliged seating himself besides Blue on the back side of the class.¬¬ I felt kind of in the wrong by seeing him obey such requests and thought of calling him back but it would have meant more disturbance in the lecture, so I held back, thinking of reconciling after the lecture.
I made her angry again. Why am I the way I am? Even after she cares for me no one ever has...Why I can't talk to her normally?
I endlessly tortured myself with those questions.
The class continued as Mr. Augustus covered the basic about spells. There were five levels of spells in which the fifth level is unique to everyone depending on their element type, which unfortunately Vess and I were unable to discover, yet. Maybe my healing faster will make her a healer I guess, just like the saint she is. Sometimes.
"You belong to us.' The words reverberated in my mind as the events of last night started to slowly come back to me, which I was not sure why I forgot in the first place.
As the lecture ended he started walking out of the hall, slipping away heavily as if burdened by something. I tried to follow him as Eloria held me from behind, teasing me, "That was some great entrance you made here today. I was thinking it was some dope new student trying to make his first impression as a sickly cool guy, but there I saw you standing with all kind of emotions mixed in your face, anger and embarrassment being the most prevalent ones."
"Yeah, it's just that dumb Wilburt, making dumb mistakes resulting in big trouble and stuff." I replied sluggishly exaggerating every word, putting my head on her shoulders
"Maybe he just wants to connect to you...and is not the type who can do so directly as he just seeks ways, unknowingly, to interact with you..." gave Eloria an almost non-comprehensible reply.
"How can that be...?" I was questioning her walking towards the next lecture hall of using mage tools, as she interrupted,
"Has he never become cautious or awkward around you and is always the goofy type?"
"Well..." I was deep in thought by her question as I remembered the instances when he would become awkward even at the smallest things such as me asking him about how I would look in a particular dress or the time when he sits just quietly sometimes by my side as if preparing himself to say something but never does.
Eloria patted by shoulder heavily as she spoke, "Well, you have to take the first step if he cannot. Bonding is very important between master and familiar." walking along for the next class.
I didn't see him the entire day. I returned to my dorm after the exhausting first day was over, and to my astonishment everything was fixed. The door was hinged back, the rack was repaired and the room was all tidied up, as my favorite coco-butter cupcakes sat upon the table along with a note that said, 'umm....sorry'. He can't even write sorry directly, I chuckled at the thought, but where was he. "Wil? Wilburt?" I called out his name lightly to check if he's inside the washroom, as there was no reply, just a clicking sound coming from inside as he came out slowly.
"Oh! You are here already. I wanted to do that – 'AAA! Surprise!' things, said he making a 'surprising someone' gesture from his hands trying to be comic while maintaining a calm tone looking down, still avoiding eye-contact with me.
I moved closer to him as he tried to form words such as, 'So... umm... how was school today? Probably a bad question to ask' chucking nervously, scratching his ruffled hair, looking around the room as if examining it for the first time.
"Hey..." I whispered as I stood there I front of him, looking up into his eyes as they dilated and he tried to shift backwards as I clasped his hands.
"It's okay. I over reacted in the heat of the moment. I'm sorry, I didn't mean that 'your kind' thing." I apologized moving closer to him, firming my grasp onto his cold hands, looking him directly into his unsettling blue eyes spread wide in aghast, looking into mine as I could feel his stammering breath, feeling warmth rushing to my head.
"I-I know..." he stammered, as his face turned bright pink, looking me back into my eyes with the utmost compassion as I could feel the radiance emitting from them. We stood in the same position for almost a minute, without saying anything, just lost into each other's gaze, feeling the warmth through each other's hands. I tilted my head, rising on my tip toes, my lips moving closer to his. Suddenly his eyes widened, as in a sudden self-realization, he moved away, breaking away the hand contact and jerk away instantly, trying to utter, and "Hey I made you your favorite snacks! What about that, huh!" in his normal voice.
"O...Oh, you made them!" I exclaimed coming out from the world I was in, still looking dreamily away.
There was silence again in the room, but this time it was an awkward silence as I sat down to eat the cupcakes, which I could not taste very well, saying a casual, 'They are good'.
We went to bed as quietly as it was before, without saying a word to each other, but knowing that everything was alright between us.
