"Wow." Corbyn voices.

"Yeah. Wow." Taylor agrees. "As I said before, this station is testing for enhanced vision and hearing. Would you like to try?" She asks.

"Sure." Corbyn replies.

"Okay! Put on these headphones for me. I will play a frequency into them and this will help me see if you have enhanced hearing." She says while handing us headphones.

I put mine on, seeing Corbyn and Sage doing the same. I give them a thumbs up. They laugh and smile.

"I will play the sound now." Taylor states.

Nothing. Well okay then.

I look over at Corbyn and he has no reaction. Sage— not so much. She hunches over and covers her ears as she rips the headphones off.

I rush over to her. "Oh my gosh. Sage, are you okay." I whisper, trying no to effect her sensitive hearing.

"Oh. Yeah, just dandy." She replies sarcastically.

"Ms. Marlowe, I will take take you to another upperclassman named John. He will talk to you." Taylor explains. Sage nodding in return.

"I guess it's just you and me now Ted." Corbyn observes.

I roll my eyes at his nickname for me. We finish the station, no luck.

We walk to a few more stations for enhanced speed, flexibility, and strength, to no avail. As we walk to the station for enhanced accuracy, a certain red-head and curly brunette wave over at us.

"Jack! Amelia! Hey." I greet excitedly.

"Hey guys. Where's Sage?" Amelia asks.

"She got taken away to talk about her Heightened hearing. The poor girl had no idea what was coming." Corbyn explains to them.

"Same here, but Zach got taken away for Heightened stamina. That guy did like 100 push ups without breaking a sweat." Jack says.

"Shall we all try Heightened accuracy?" I suggest. They all nod.

A tall brunette gives us the option of bows and arrows or throwing knives. I take my pick: the throwing knives. We all line up about 20 feet from the target dummies in front of us. The brunette tells us to proceed. I first watch as Amelia and Jack utterly fail, as well as Corbyn, whose arrow doesn't even make it 5 feet. Yikes! My turn. I take my stance and throw. To my surprise it hits the target, not a bullseye. I throw again and it actually hits dead on. Another. And another. I smile at my achievement looking over at my friends as they stair wide-eyed at me.

"Well, would you look at that. I am good at something for once in my life. Woohoo!" I say excitedly.

"Not gonna lie. That was awesome. Like so badāss." Corbyn states. We laugh at this.

"Ms. Harris, you have Heightened accuracy. I will take you to Ms. Connor now." The brunette says. I wave goodbye to the group and follow him to who I assume is Miss Connor. We stop in front of a woman with black hair. She introduces herself as Ms. Connor and talks to me about the responsibility and dangers of it and to not purposely hit other students. I smile and nod, not ever wanting to put harm upon innocent people whether I had the ability or not. She tells me that with this ability I will not have another one in the Heightened category and I should wait in the cafeteria for the class bell to ring.

My walk to the cafeteria is short as I memorized the turns on the way the way there from Kane's room and from his room the signs led me there. The cafeteria is slightly crowded with kids who I am assuming already have been lectured of their abilities. I take a good look around for familiar faces. Safe should be here as she was taken away awhile ago. I finally spot a head of shoulder- length curly brown hair. I shimmy my way through the sea of kids and tables and quickly sit down next to an unsuspecting Sage.

"Hiya!" I shout over the other kids.

"Ow. Teddyyy." Sage winces, covering her ears.

"Sorry." I whisper and sheepishly smile.

"What took you so long. I have been here for almost thirty minutes by myself." She pouts.

"Corbyn and I tried so many stations. We had no luck with them and then we saw Amelia and Jack. We tried Heightened accuracy together. Lucky me. I hit that bullseye three times in a row. What a rush." I gush out.

"Ooooh. That's cool. I am stuck with super sensitive ears. What's that gonna help with? Gossip?" Sage laughs.

"Oh yeah. Your ears will be the gateway to the latest news of who's its and what's its galore." I tease. "Oh yeah and I meant to ask, have you seen Zach here? Jack says he got Heightened stamina."

"I don't know. We could look for him now if you want." Sage suggests. I nod and stand up looking around for a familiar fluff of brown hair and rosy cheeks.

"Lookin' for me?" Zach's voice asks behind me.

"Zach! Yes. We were. You good?" I ask.

"Yep. What did you both get?" He asks.

"I got Heightened hearing and Teddy got Heightened accuracy." Sage explains.

"Cool. Do you know when the next class—" he starts to ask, being interrupted by the bell. "Never mind. That answered my question." He laughs.

"See you guys later. Our second class awaits." Zach salutes as he walks away. Sage and I also heading our separate ways to our second class.

The rest of the my day consists of History, Math, and Science. The teachers tell us how we only have four classes for the next four days. When all three abilities are discovered, corresponding classes to those abilities will account for the remaining two spots on our schedule sheets and the replacement of our Activation class. Before I know it, the school day is over and I make my way back to my dorm. I am surprised I haven't gotten lost yet. This place is a literal maze.

A familiar number 4 appears in my line of sight. I smile, happy to just walk in and plop down on my bed. That is exactly what I do. My feet take me to the edge of my bed and I dive into the plush sheets. I take a deep breath. Exhale out.

The door swings open. Lou walks in looking as exhausted as me, but with her hair all over the place

"You look great Lou. So great." I tease.

"Very funny. My hair looks like a bird's nest. I got Heightened speed. I was not expecting to go like 60 miles per hour. I got so scared I face planted at a whopping 60 mpr and almost broke my nose. I am such a klutz." She shakes her head in disappointment at herself.

"Oh it's okay Lou. We can work on that. I will help you if want." I insist.

"I mean sure. Okay. I don't know if you will actually help or make a difference but I am willing to try. I just really don't want to face plant again." She laughs. I join.

Soon enough all of the girls pile in the dorm. We save questions for the next day and get ready for bed.

"Goodnight girls. Sleep well." Dakota says softly.

"Night." The girls and I reply.
