Wake up! A muffled voice shouts. My eyes jolt open as I take in my surroundings. A bus. An old run down, dirty school bus. Did they freaking break into my home to take me to school?!
I then realize I am not alone. I spin around on the seat and come to face a group of kids my age. Three guys and two girls. They stare at me expectantly. What am I supposed to say?! Hey! Did you all get kidnapped too or am I the only one? Or maybe go with something more simple...
"Uhhh...hi." I mumble. My voice scratchy from dehydration.
A chorus of "hey" and "hi" comes from the group around me.
"So anyone wanna tell me what's going on?" I ask nervously.
"We don't know. We all woke up the same way you did." The curly-haired brunette girl speaks.
"You are the first person in like three hours to be picked up by the weird stormtrooper-soldier people." The blonde boy states.
"How long have you guys been on here?" I question.
"Maybe like six or seven hours, give or take. At least for me. I think that guy over there was the first one picked up. He hasn't talked in awhile. This situation is pretty confusing and scary, so we just decided to give him some space." Blondie says pointing to a curly haired brunette boy sitting in the front of the bus away from the group.
"Were you guys taken from your families too?" I ask. They all nod.
A moment of silence fills the air in the musty bus.
"What are your names? I'm Dakota" A dirty blonde girl asks from a few rows behind me.
"Daniel." The blondie replies.
"Sage." The curly brunette says.
"Jonah." The taller brunette guy speaks.
"I'm Theodora. But I hate my name so call me Teddy instead." I say smiling a little.
We all turn to the last boy for a response. He is still facing away from us, so I cautiously get up from my seat and make my way to the front where he is sitting. I take the seat across the aisle from him and speak.
"Hey there. I'm Teddy. What's your name?" I ask. He turns to me, showing his face. His unruly curls covering his eyes.
He hesitates for a second before saying, "Jack."
I smile. "Nice to meet you Jack. I know this isn't the most ideal situation to be introducing each other but I think we all need to stick together right now. I have no clue what the exact situation we are in is. But making new friends could come in handy to fight our way out. Don't you think?"
"Yeah. I guess." He mumbles.
"Okay. That's great. You wanna come back with me and 'socialize'?" I say extending my hand out to him.
"Sure." He says, reaching out and grabbing my extended hand. I smile and stand up, leading us back to the rest of the group.
"This is Jack. We are best friends now." I say nudging his arm a little. He smiles at that.
"In this moment, amidst this predicament, the most amazing friendship was formed. We are a family now." I declare. Laughs and smiles filling the bus. Agreements are heard all around.
I notice Jonah stiffen at the corner of my eye.
"Hey guys... wherever those stormtrooper people wanted to take us. I think we are here." He points to a giant gated wall in the distance.
