Mario, Peach, and Luigi were all helping to set this trap. They placed the Dark Prognosticus on a table in the center of the throne room and they were now wiring it up. They were setting it up so the second the Dark Prognosticus was removed from the table, the lights would turn on. That way, Luigi would be able to quickly incapacitate Mr.L while he tried to process what happened.

"Hey, Weegee?" Mario asked.

"Yeah?" Luigi replied.

"Do you think that you would actually be able to capture Mr.L?" Mario questioned.

"Well, yeah. I mean, I am as strong as he is." Luigi chuckled.

"No, I mean... are you mentally prepared to do this?" Mario reiterated.

Luigi paused for a moment.

"I think so, yes." Luigi replied, "I'm just going to make him stay still long enough so I can apologize. Once I do that, I'm sure he'll be good!"

Mario sighed as he continued wiring up the trap.

"You are WAY too forgiving for your own good." Mario chuckled, "I mean, what if that doesn't work? What if he tries to kill you?"

"He won't." Luigi said as if it was a fact, "There! The trap is set so now I wait. I'll go prepare!"

Mario sighed again as Luigi walked off.

"There's no way I'm letting him do this by himself," Mario muttered.

Mario didn't trust Mr.L one bit. He walked off, preparing himself to hide for HIS trap.

Nighttime was eventually dawning so Luigi prepared for his stakeout. He had stationed himself behind a pillar and was standing clear away from any windows because Mr.L liked to take the least expected entrance possible. Which usually included some form of non-door.

It was almost 4 am and Mr.L had still not appeared to collect his book. Luigi had long dozed off and was currently sleeping on the job.

A few more moments of Luigi resting and then all of a sudden, the lights snapped on! Luigi bolted awake to hear someone muttering curses under their breath. And that someone was no doubt Mr.L.

Luigi tried to get up as quietly as possible. He peered around the pillar he was hiding behind to see Mr.L vigorously detaching the string from the Dark Prognosticus. Luigi took a deep breath and stepped out from behind the pillar.

"Mr.L..." Luigi murmured.

Mr.L immediately flinched and accidentally dropped the book. He got into a fighting stance, activating his Thunderhand, and faced Luigi. Luigi held his hands slightly up to show that he had no weapons, not daring to move.

"What are you doing, Mr.L?" Luigi asked calmly.

"What does it look like? I'm getting the Dark Prognosticus!" Mr.L spat.

"But why?" Luigi questioned.

Mr.L didn't respond. Luigi thought that he could see Mr.L twitching slightly.

"The transformations have already become unstable, haven't they?" Luigi said.

Mr.L didn't respond. Luigi knew that he hit home with his query.

"You don't need to torture some other person. You can go back to being my alter. Just stop causing people so much pain." Luigi said as gently as he could.

"I'm not torturing him!" Mr.L cried out, "And if I go back to your head, you'll just try and get rid of me again! Or you'll just keep me locked up!"

"Because you're hurting people," Luigi stated.

"Because YOU ARE hurting people!" Mr.L retorted, "You control my overall actions! Any grudge you hide, I make known! Anything that you want gone, I make disappear! So stop labeling ME as the monster!"

Mr.L was breathing heavily now. Luigi let out a sigh.

"Look. I know that we don't normally get along, for some obvious reasons... But I made the mistake of trying to get rid of you and I want to make up for it." Luigi said.

Mr.L seemed to ease up a little.

"Really..?" Mr.L asked.

Luigi nodded and held out his hand to Mr.L. Mr.L deactivated his Thunderhand and started towards Luigi.

"Luigi! Watch out!"

Mario came in from out of nowhere and hit Mr.L with his Firebrand.

"Mario?! What are you doing?!" Luigi shouted.

Mr.L hit the floor hard but quickly recovered.

"I knew that I shouldn't have trusted you!" Mr.L exclaimed.

Mario lunged at him again and Mr.L lept out the window he took to get inside.

"Mario! Stop it!" Luigi yelled.

Mario lept out after Mr.L. Luigi quickly followed suit. Mr.L was dashing across rooftops while Mario followed from the ground. Luigi kept shouting at Mario to stop, but to no avail.

"Get down here and fight!" Mario shouted.

"How about YOU get to MY level, Mr.JumpingAllTheTime!" Mr.L spat at him.

Mario and Luigi kept chasing after him until one of Mr.L's steps faltered as he was leaping to another roof and he fell into an alleyway. They could hear groans of pain, but they weren't Mr.L's.

"The transformations HAVE become unstable!" Luigi exclaimed.

The Mario brothers ran into the alleyway but saw no one. Mario let out a shout of frustration.

"He got away, dang it!" Mario shouted.

He looked over to see Luigi giving him a glare.

"What?" Mario asked.

"What? WHAT?! You just made it so Mr.L will probably NEVER trust me again!" Luigi exclaimed, "He was about to accept my help! This was about to be over!"

"Did you really think that's what he was going to do?" Mario asked.

"YES!" Luigi shouted.

Luigi then broke down into sobs on the floor. Mario didn't want to admit his brother was right about this but eventually let out a sigh of defeat.

"Okay, fine," Mario muttered.

"What?" Luigi asked.

"I'll play by your rules. No more thinking that I'm always right. What do you want me to do?" Mario asked.

Luigi wiped some snot away with his sleeve as he got up.

"Well. We still have the Dark Prognosticus. So Mr.L has to show up at some point." Luigi stated, "But this time. We need more hands on deck."
