chapter 26

5.8.21

it's been about a week since the drive by happened. so far zayn hasn't shown any signs of waking up. the doctor told harry that due to the amount of times he was shot it will take his body awhile to recover.

right now harry and liam were at the hospital waiting for visiting hours to start. louis wanted to be there but he had to work, he was going to call in but he's been doing that since zayn was shot so harry told him to go and that he would call him if anything happened.

harry looked over at liam and saw that he was still crying. harry stopped crying a couple days ago, mainly because his body didn't have any more tears left to cry.

"liam?" harry asked, his voice raw from the sobbing he's been doing "are you okay?"

liam just shook his head no "no i'm not" he stood up and started pacing "w-why isn't he awake yet?"

"dr dallas said that it will take time, we just need to keep praying and hoping that he'll make it through" harry explained

"don't give me that bullshit harry" liam whispered "it's been almost two fucking weeks! he should be up by now"

liam started to choke on his crying so harry stood up and brought him into his arms and shushed him.

"hey it's okay, like you said, zayn is a fighter and he will wake up and make fun of your eyebrows like he's always done since we all became friends okay?" harry said

liam laughed at that and nodded. he stepped back from the embrace "i'm sorry, it's just that i'm worried about him you know?"

harry nodded "i do know, and don't apologize for crying"

liam nodded and sat back down. harry watched him for a minute before sitting next to him.

soon enough dr dallas came up to them and told them that visiting hours have started and that they can go see zayn after washing their hands.

as they were walking harry said something that had been in his head for awhile.

"i thought it was lou" he whispered, tracing his tattoo on his hand, specifically 'ludovici'

"what?" liam asked

"i said i thought it was louis, you know the one getting shot" harry breathed out

"oh harry" liam said bring him into his chest

"is it selfish to say that i'm glad it wasn't? like i am absolutely torn up about zayn but there is this part of me that is just so happy that my lou didn't get hurt"

"no haz it's understandable" liam said as he rubbed his back

"that feels good to let go of. i was holding onto it because i thought it was a fucked up thing to say"

"it's not" liam smiled "now let's go see zayn"

harry nodded and they walked into zayns room. he was hooked up with a bunch of wires but that didn't faze them since they've seen him everyday since.

harry stayed at the foot of the bed while liam went to zayns side and grabbed his hand. he has been doing that everyday so it didn't really shock harry but what did shock him was when liam kissed zayns temple and whispered something in his ear.

"he's looking better" liam said, trying to cover up the fact that he did that in front of harry.

"yea he's getting his color back" harry said. it was true. before, zayn was looking gray but over the past week he's getting less gray so that gave them all hope that he will wake up soon.

liam nodded and tried to discreetly rub zayns knuckles but what he didn't know was that harry sees everything. harry bit his tongue though.

twenty minutes later they left, harry had some things to do and liam was getting nervous about staying there because a security guard looked at them weird.

as they were leaving though liam went back into zayns room for a quick second and came back out messing with his mouth.

they walked out of the icu and turned their phones back on.

as harry turned his phone on he saw he had 10 miss calls from louis.

immediately his stomach dropped because if louis just called to ask how things were he either left a voicemail or just called once so when he saw how many times he called, harry called him right back.

"lou? oh my god what's wrong" harry said as soon as louis answered

"connor is here" louis whispered
