chapter 31

8.16.21

four days after louis returned home zayn woke up.

they were all sitting in zayns hospital room as he has been out of the icu after showing signs of waking up two days prior.

niall was laying on the floor sleeping while liam was in the chair with his head on zayns bed sleeping. louis and harry were on the couch awake.

"i hope he wakes soon" harry whispers

louis looked at harry and saw tears forming.

"tell me about adam" louis said, knowing being in this situation might be triggering harry

harry smiled "he was so funny, he would crack jokes left and right, niall kind of reminds me of him" he sniffed "when he died, um zayn was there to comfort me as adams mum confirmed it was him, it was the most awful i had felt in so long" harry paused

"how come?" louis asked, rubbing harrys knee

"he had been staying on my couch for about a month and he asked me if it was okay if he could go out for a walk, like i was his dad or something" harry laughed at the memory "i told him to be careful and to come straight back if he got any weird feelings or saw something, i guess i was like his dad" harry smiled "he hadn't come back after two hours so i tried calling him and he didn't answer, i went out and looked for him, i called zayn and liam to help and we couldn't find him, inside i was hoping he found a guy and was in his bed but somehow i knew that wasn't the case, but even so i went home and waited for him to come back"

"i see" louis breathed "well zayn is showing signs of waking up so he has to, i can feel it"

"i just don't want to lose another best friend" harry whispered, his voice cracking

"oh babe" louis sighed and got up to embrace harry in the only way he knew how, he stood up and sat on his lap and hugged his neck tightly, not even caring that harrys arms were tight around his waist, he just continued to whisper reassuring words in his hair.

they were interrupted by the sound of someone trying to breathe. louis looked over and saw zayn's chest moving rapidly.

due to the sound of zayns ragid breathing, liam woke up and was by his head in a flash.

harry pressed the call button and 30 seconds later two nurses and the doctor came into the room.

"look who's back" the doctor smiled "we're going to pull the tube out of his throat now since he can fully breathe on his own" he explained

they all nodded, harry just now realizing that niall woke up.

they didn't watch the doctor pull out the tube so they all turned away until the doctor said to look again.

"try talking to him" the doctor said and left promising to come back in a few minutes

"zayn?" liam whispered

"hey" zayn croaked

"hey buddy" harry smiled

"ew don't call me buddy asswipe" zayn joked

they all laughed with tears on their cheeks.

"why are you all crying? i'm not dead" zayn said

"we know, we're just happy you're awake" liam said with a smile

"how long was i asleep?" zayn asked

"um about a month" harry guessed

"wow, and you're all still here, i must be special" zayn said

before anyone could say anything else the doctor came in.

"welcome back!" the doctor chirped

"can i sit up?" zayn asked

"of course, one of you boys should help him" the doctor said, barely able to finish his sentence as liam immediately started to help

after zayn got situated he looked at everyone like he was waiting for an explanation

"what?" harry asked

"well tell me what happened" zayn said

"um, we were walking to the park to meet with niall and all of a sudden a drive by happened and you got shot, we don't know if you were the main target or not" harry explained

"sick" zayn said

"oh my god" harry shook his head

"what? that's cool" zayn said and then turned to the doctor "can i see the bullets?"

"unfortunately we had to dispose of them" the doctor said

"oh" zayn frowned

"you're so weird" harry laughed

zayn just smiled "when can i got home?" he asked the doctor

"in a couple of days, we have to check your wounds to see if they are healing nicely and also do some other check ups with you while you are in and out of the hospital" the doctor explained and excused himself as his pager went off

zayn nodded "so what all did i miss?"

they explained everything, from the shooting to louis getting kidnapped and harry may or may not have confessed that louis and him said 'i love you'

"oh! yes i was hoping that would happen soon" zayn smiled

"again, you're weird" harry laughed and hugged louis from behind

zayn shrugged

they talked and slept for a couple days until zayn could finally leave the hospital.

louis kept his job at 'sunshine cafe' but took time off at first because of trauma.

harry, liam, and zayn somewhat stopped their criminal lives for the reason that it has done nothing but create problems for them, sometimes though they go out and steal a car for that adrenaline.

niall found a girlfriend and it has gotten pretty serious, they have moved in together.

liam and zayn came out and said they have been seeing eachother a little bit before harry and louis met.

louis now loves danger.

HEY!! sorry it's been so long, also sorry this was such a short end but i was starting to hate all my ideas and then my original end didn't make sense bc i was hoping i would have a whole different vibe with this fic when i started but it turned to shit. i am happy with how it turned out, this was my first fic and i can't believe how much attention it has gotten and might continue to get! if you want me to make an epilogue please comment and let me know bc i will! sorry there was no smut but i got scared and didn't write any..
