Calum, Ashton, Luke, Michael and Maely sat on the hard concrete at the inside car park of Forest Hills Stadium, sipping on the 7-11 Slurpees that one of the security guards had kindly fetched for them. Calum and Maely had just broken the news of the contract to the boys, and their reactions were just as Calum had expected.
Ashton had dropped his slurpee cup and spilt a rainbow of crushed ice all over the concrete, his face blank with shock.
Michael had spat his slurpee all over Calum's face, shouting a "WHAT THE FUCK!?" as he drenched his poor friend's face with sticky pink and white slurpee.
Luke, however, had a very different reaction.
"So, she's a groupie now?" Luke confirmed, seeming suprisingly calm.
"Um... yeah," Calum nodded, shooting Maely a sideways glance as he wiped his sticky face over with paper towel.
"Okay, cool," Luke nodded, raising his seven-eleven slurpee cup back to his lips and taking a long sip of the cool liquid.
"That's it?" Calum asked in surprise.
"What do you mean?" Luke asked, his adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed.
"You're just so..."
"Chilled? Relaxed? Emotionless?" Luke answered, surprising Calum yet again. "Well, Calum, believe it or not I am fully done with your shit. For months on end I've been looking out for you, trying to cover for you, getting you out of trouble, trying to make you whole again. Then finally this amazing girl comes along and I think that maybe you're going to change. But then you go and turn her into a groupie - a fucking groupie!? Don't you think we've gone through enough of your shit, Calum?"
Calum's jaw dropped so fast and hard he could almost feel it hitting the concrete beneath them. Had Luke really felt this way for so long? Yes.
"Luke-"
"No, don't you Luke me," Luke slammed his slurpee cup into the ground angrily as he stood up, towering over his seated friend. "I've had it up to here with your shit! Do you know how much trouble we're going to be in once the fans find out that she's a groupie?"
"The fans won't-"
"Don't. Just don't," Luke warned, pointing an accusing finger at the boy. "They will find out - you know what they're like. And you know what? I hope that they find out, because I can't deal with your shit anymore. Fuck you, Calum."
In angry heap, Luke began to storm off back to the bus, but when he reached the front steps he stopped in his tracks and sheepishly made his way back to the concrete area, his hands stuffed in his pockets.
"Luke, please just listen-"
"Don't think I'm coming back here for you," Luke spat as he leant down to pick up his slurpee. "I'm not gonna let you ruin a bloody good slurpee."
As Luke stormed back off in the direction of the bus, Calum knew that he had to do something to stop him. Ashton, Michael and Maely were silent, all for different reasons. Ashton was speechless - they'd had groupies before, but they'd never actually toured with them. Michael was still trying to process Calum's words, and Maely was sitting, wondering why she ever accepted Sara's stupid offer. The last thing that she wanted was to come in and tear this band apart, but at the moment that seemed like all that was happening.
