A Perfect World

In a perfect world, Maely and Calum would have both lived a long and happy life.

They would take Jaxon down, together, and finally be a true couple. It wouldn't be easy - nothing with those two is ever easy. There would be fights and brawls, and nights were they would wonder why they were trying at all - but all the hard work would make their love so much more worthwhile.

In a perfect world, Calum would propose to Maely on the same roof where he drunkenly spilled his past to her. He would promise her so many things - to love her always and unconditionally, to protect her and look after her, to give her the life that she deserved. And she would cry like a baby when she said yes.

In a perfect world, they would have a wedding with just the five of them - Calum, Maely, Luke, Ashton and Michael. Because they were the important people to them - they didn't need a big, fancy wedding. All that they needed was each other.

In a perfect world, Maely and Calum would have two children - Alice Ashton Hood and Lukas Michael Hood. Ashton would complain about his name being given to a girl ("it makes it less masculine") and Calum would tell him to suck it up ("it was the least masculine out of the two").

In a perfect world, Maely and Calum would live to see their children succeed and even have grandchildren. Alice, inspired by her mother's battle against her former enemy and determined to put similar people behind bars, would become the best lawyer New York had ever seen, and Luke would publish a best-selling love story about a world-famous musician and a broke stripper.

In a perfect world, Maely and Calum would retire together and travel the world.

In a perfect world, Maely and Calum would return home and lay down to bed.

In a perfect world, Maely and Calum would die together, side by side.

In a perfect world, their souls would live in for eternity.

In a perfect world.

But this wasn't a perfect world.

Shortly after Calum's death, 5 Seconds of Summer announced their resignation as a band and the three boys went their separate ways.

Michael went off as a solo guitarist, partying in Los Angeles by night and playing guitar for records by day. He married at twenty-six to an American girl and had one child by the age of thirty - Thomas.

Ashton opened his own record label and settled down with Luna, marrying her by the age of twenty-three. They had four children by the time Ashton was thirty - Finn, Astrid, Calum and Maely.

Luke never settled down - he never met a girl, and he never had children. He moved back in with his parents in Sydney and drank himself to sleep most nights. Calum and Maely's deaths pushed him over the edge and he couldn't handle it anymore. At the age of thirty, Luke committed suicide. Two years later, Michael's wife had another child and they named him Luke, in memory of another fallen friend.

And Maely and Calum's souls, living on for eternity, lay together, watching over everyone and everything.

Because although their bodies died;

Their love never did.

Wow. It's over.

I know nobody likes to read long Author's Notes but it's the end of the book so I'd appreciate if you did!

So, this story has been in the works since 2014 - it's been nearly two years in the making. And although I know it's not the greatest story, I'd hope that it's something that you will all remember, and something that has made an impact on all of you readers.

I can't begin to thank you all enough for joining me on this journey. To those who have been there from the very beginning: thankyou all so much for sticking with me throughout this lengthy process! I hope it's been as rewarding an experience for you as it has been for me. To those who haven't been there forever: thankyou all for giving me a chance - for giving Maely and Calum a chance, and for being there for me throughout all this. There's nothing that I appreciate more than the endless support you all provide me.

The most rewarding thing about writing is having people engage in it and actually enjoy it - every single comment that is made on the story makes my heart soar (I try to reply to them all, so I'm sorry if I haven't replied to yours!!) and makes me smile crazily - I wish you could all see it! I have put so much hard work and effort into this book and having people praise me and tell me how much they love and enjoy it makes all of the stress worthwhile.

Thankyou all for being such amazing people - I couldn't have asked for better readers. You all mean so much more to me than you will ever understand.

I'm sad to let Calum and Maely go - to let Groupie go - but it's been an absolutely incredible, life-changing and extremely rewarding journey for me, and I hope it has been the same for you all too.

It's not goodbye just yet guys!

FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO WATCH THE 100 OR HAVE READ/SEEN THE MAZE RUNNER, I am working on new stories for both of those, as well as another Calum story (yes, I know, I can't help myself!) - so, stay tuned for that guys and don't delete Groupie from your library because I will be editing it and updating when I release my new stories.

Thankyou all so much,

For the last time on Groupie,

Emily xx
