The next two days were spent in the cabin, separately. Amelia stayed in her room when she wasn't trying to help with that case, while Colton was usually in either the kitchen or living room. He was still convinced that maybe the second newspaper clipping had some sort or meaning but he couldn't figure it out. Amelia would sit with him to make it appear like she was trying to help but she wasn't.
There hadn't been any more murders in the last couple days either, which was a relief to Amelia. No more innocent people had died and she was thankful for that.
It was getting more and more difficult being so close to Colton again because there so many different emotions she was feeling while being around him. On one hand, she was angry still to be around him because of he had abandoned her five years ago. After everything they had been through together as partners, seemingly went out the window the second she came under fire.
But on the other hand, she still saw the old Colton she loved being around. The one who would make things not feel so bad when they were. The one who would make her laugh after things got rough. The one she could count on for anything.
Amelia was conflicted, she knew when this was over that she would never have to see him again and she wasn't sure if she was actually happy with that decision. Never seeing him again meant never having to relive any of this again, but it also meant she would lose a big part of her.
Colton and Amelia first met when they both began the academy right out of college. They clicked right off the bat. They completed the academy together and soon became partners within the bureau. Their partnership was the best thing to ever happen to them. They flowed as a team, Amelias' skill set mixed with Coltons' made the perfect combination. Amelia was more skilled with the in the field work when it came to apprehending criminals as well as her technological skills. Colton had the people skills as well as the hand eye coordination with his gun. Amelia also had better hand-to-hand skills if the situation ever arose, which was more often than either of them hoped.
Colton probably spent more time tending to Amelias' injuries than not, she never backed down from a fight. She made a name for herself that way though, with her high success rate it came to when arrests. Her and Colton shared the spotlight though, she always made sure he got the credit he deserved.
She looked out for him while he looked out for her. Until she came under fire, then she was alone. And that's made her hate him. After spending years being someone's partner and showing them your vulnerable side only for them to run when things got rough showed how much people truly cared for you. And whether or not they were actually there for you or just what you could do for them.
She felt as though he only cared about her to further his career in the FBI. What would he be gaining right now if he brought Wilkins in? He'd be praised for his great job on this case and be admired all throughout the bureau, while she, she would go back to her life working at a sports bar. It wasn't fair.
Amelia was laying down on the bed looking up to the ceiling, trying to get her mind to calm down. She hated this, all of this. However her alone time was cut short when there was a knock on the door.
Coltons' head appeared from behind the door as it opened, "Hey." He said quietly. Amelia nodded her head in acknowledgement but didn't speak.
Colton sighed before opening the door fully and leaning against the frame, "The shops should be opening soon if we want to head out there and see about the footage from that one camera. Are you okay with going now?" He asked gently. He knew she had been purposefully avoiding him since their last outing, even though they were staying in the same house.
"Yea, give me a minute and I'll be out." She replied quietly, pulling herself into a sitting position. Colton didn't say anything, just nodded his head before leaving the room. Once he was out of earshot, Amelia let out a breath and dropped her head into her hands. She took a deep breath before she stood up from the bed to grab her her shoes, as well as her jacket.
