1 year later...
Amelia shivered as the cool night breeze blew on her exposed legs, the dress she wore to the sports bar doing nothing to keep her warm. She tugged her jacket tighter over her body as she made her way home. It was close to midnight by the time she reached her apartment.
She had stayed in the same apartment duplex even after starting the new job at the field office, enjoying the feeling of comfort it brought to her at the familiar area she had grown to call home the past 6 years. It was within walking distance to the bar so if she ever felt the need for a drink, it was never far away.
Tonight was Celias' birthday so she held a small party at the bar where they both use to work. Once Amelia left her job working at the bar, Celia was close behind. She said that the only reason she stayed at the bar was because she felt safe with Amelia there, that she made it bearable. So when she quit, Celia had no reason to stay.
Celia was now working at a local boutique as a manager, her sense of flashing finally coming in handy. Amelia had never seen her more happy than when she started working at the boutique. Her new relationship also had a hand in Celias' uplifting mood.
After Amelia had told Celia every detail she could pertaining to the Wilkins' case, Celia held up her end of the bargain for Amelia going to help Colton and asked Justin out. She was so nervous, but Justin felt the same. When he had said yes to a date, Celia was ecstatic. After hiding her feelings for so long, she was so happy to know they were reciprocated.
Amelia was so happy for her friend, she had a healthy relationship and a steady job. She could hope for nothing better for her.
All the lights were off inside when Amelia finally made it back home making her sigh. She was hoping to make it back before Colton went to sleep.
After the Wilkins' case had been processed and closed officially, Colton had moved in with Amelia. Sure they may have been moving fast but after being partners for so long, it felt natural for them to be around each other so much. Colton also began his new job at the field office with Amelia, excelling in his career once again.
Lately, though, work had been kicking his ass. It seemed like cases were piling up one after the other and every agent in the field office was moving a million miles a minute. With Amelia head of the office, she had to go over every report that came across her desk, read every debriefing from the agents on their cases. Sure that is a lot of work, but not as much as what the agents had to do working the case.
Colton had been working late for the past couple of weeks to close his cases, sometimes staying over at the office to get things done. He was stressed, that was clear, but that was the job. Thankfully, the stream of flowing cases had trickled down in the last few days so there was light at the end of the tunnel for them all.
Amelia unlocked the front door and stepped in, shutting it quietly behind her. She slipped off her heels by the door so they wouldn't make any noise against the hardwood floor as she made her way upstairs. Setting her keys on the table by the front door after locking it, she held her heels in her hand as she walked quietly upstairs.
She slowly pushed open the door to the bedroom and stepped inside. Colton was lying on his stomach on the bed with his arms folded under his head, sleeping peacefully. Amelia smiled when seeing his peaceful expression, walking over to his side of the bed and leaning down. She pushed the hair back from his forehead, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead before making her way to the en-suite.
She placed her heels down by her closet and grabbed a pair of pajamas before entering the bathroom, leaving the door opened a crack as she turned the light on. Doing her bathroom duties, she then walked over to the counter and began taking off her makeup.
