Natasha's POV
You would think waking up to the girl you've been in love with since the beginning cuddling into your side when you wake up would make you happy. But on days like today nothing makes me happy.
I slid out of y/n's grip and walked into the bathroom. I splashed my face with water trying to wake myself up physically and mentally. Hoping that would help me forget the pain this day brought so I could be happy about being with y/n. It had only been two days since I got her back, since I got to call her mine. And this day was going to ruin that.
I put the toilet seat down and sat there with my knees against my chest. Unable to do anything else, I started to cry. The memories of Clint replayed in my mind like a movie. I made sure to keep my sobbing quiet so y/n wouldn't wake up and hear me but she heard me anyway.
"Nat?" she asked as she softly knocked on the door.
"Yeah?" I asked wiping the tears that were streaming down my face.
"You okay?" she asked.
"I'm fine." lied.
"Natasha." she spoke softly and sympathetically.
"Just give me a second, please?" I asked.
"Okay." she said and I heard her footsteps become faint as she walked away.
Y/n's POV
I walked into the kitchen and started to make chocolate chip pancakes. Natasha's favorite. I hoped that it would make her cheer up a bit. I didn't know why she was so upset but I didn't like it. I loved seeing her smile and laugh but not the tears. Every sob I heard coming from her made my heart break even more.
Natasha was a tough person to break which means something really bad must have happened. I started to think about that more and then I realized. Today must be the anniversary of Clint's death. As I finished my thought Natasha emerged from the bedroom and into the kitchen. I saw her struggle to put on fake smile when she saw the pancakes. I gave her a sympathetic smile and walked over to giver her a hug.
To which she responded by burying her head in my chest and letting out a few sobs.
"It's okay." I assured her and kissed her head.
"I'm sorry" she sniffled.
"For what?" I asked.
"For ruining our happy streak." she said and I looked down at her.
"Hey," I said and lifted her chin up so she could look me in the eyes. "You didn't ruin anything. You have a right to feel however you want."
She smiled and buried her head in my chest again.
"Can we eat the pancakes now?" she asked and I laughed at her cuteness.
"Yeah." I said ad we sat down and ate.
We spent the day in bed as I listened to Natasha tell me the stories of her and Clint's adventures. My favorite was the one about Budapest (I will forever be mad at Marvel if they don't tell us what happened in Budapest in the Black Widow Movie or the Hawkeye show). It seemed like the more she talked about the happy and fun memories she shared with Clint the happier she became.
When the day came to an end and the night took over she thanked me for listening to her talk all day. Truth is I didn't mind it, she could talk for weeks on end and I would never get tired of hearing her voice. Soon we feel into sleep and everything was peaceful, for now. A couple weeks passed and we had found another place to stay until we caught Dr. Kint and the Sculptors. And we did...eventually.
It too a few months and so much work we never got to celebrate Natasha's birthday. So, I talked to Steve and Tony and they agreed to help me set everything up. The plan was: Steve would take Natasha shopping while me and Tony got everything ready at me and Natasha's apartment. Things started out good until Tony was late with the cake, I heard the keys clanking as Natasha unlocked the door and then the door started to open. I panicked and held the door shut.
"Don't come in!" I yelled.
"Y/n? Hey, what's going on?" Natasha asked as I felt her trying to open the door.
"You know maybe we should go for a walk ." Steve suggested as he realized things probably weren't all set up.
"No, y/n, open the door." she said and put all her force into pushing the door which made me Caused me to go flying forwards. "What are y-oh."
"oh" isn't the reaction we were hoping for." Steve chuckled nervously.
"No, no it's great. I've just never celebrated my birthday before." she explained.
"I'm here. I'm here!" Tony yelled as he barged in with the cake.
"What took you so long?" I asked.
"They forgot to add other name." Tony said.
"What other name?" I asked.
"Yours." he said shyly. "Steve and I kinda had an ulterior motive. You both missed out on your birthday's."
"We thought you should celebrate, late, together as a first year together kinda thing." Steve explained.
