Laying up looking at the ceiling of my mothers old bedroom. I had just put her into a nursing home, Alzheimer's. She had been diagnosed four years ago. I was backpack in Europe when I found out, I then procceed to go to medical school and apply for an intership at the hospital where my mother did hers, Seatlle Grace Hospital. My name is Meredith Grey, and I am a suregon.

I was getting ready for the mixer the hospital was hosting for us interns, I didn't want to go but I knew if I didn't I wouldn't know anyone at work tomorrow so I put on my little black dress with matching heels. I drove to the hospital and made my way up to the lobby, where they were hosting the mixer. I mingled with a few of the other interns, Cristina, Izzie, Alex, and George.

"So have you lived in Seattle long?"

George asked. He seemed to be interested in me but I wasn't all that interested. He had a cute ass I will admitt but he just wasn't my type.

"I lived in Seattle with my mother when I was a child then we moved to Boston. After high school she moved back here to write a book and bought our house back. She kept the house and moved to work at the Mayo clinic."

"Oh thats cool, you know my parents live just a few miles away."

"That's very nice George. I have to go but I will see you tomorrow."

As I walked away I think I heard him say goodbye but I wasn't to sure. Instead of staying longer I headed to the bar across the street, Joes. I sat at the bar and ordered a straight shot of tequila.

"You are going to be sorry in the morning."

Joe, the bartender said to me.

"You know Joe I start a new job in the morning, so I don't really care at the moment."

As I took my second shot a very good looking man walked up and sat next to me.

"Can I buy you a drink?"

He had a full head of hair, lucious and thick, his eyes were gentle. He had on a red shirt that you could see his pex through, he had to be in his late thrities but he was pretty sexy.

"Sure, but I am just a girl in a bar."

He smiled at me,

"And I'm just a guy and a bar."

That is the last thing I remeber from that night, until I woke up in the morning.

We woke up on the floor in the living room, I was closest to the coach, and had the blanket, I threw the pillow I had been sleeping on on this guys ass, and he made a grunting sound.

"You have to leave."

"What why don't you just come back down here and we can continue where we left off."

"No I mean you have to go I'm late. Which isn't what you want to be on your first day of work. I am going to go upstairs and shower and when I come back down you won't be here. Goodbye, uh,"

"Derek."

"Derek right I'm Meredith. Goodby Derek."

I laughed and ran upstairs, my first one night stand in Seattle. I hope they all weren't like this.

I arrived late to the hospital, luckily we were still on the tour and since I had grown up in the hospital I knew where everything was. After the tour we were in the locker room where we changed into our scrubs for the first time. I was talking with Cristina about which resident they had. They called her the Nazi, and George had the same resident. As the guy called our names we went out to the hall.

"Bailey,"

Cristina said.

"End of the hall."

And for the first time in a while, I smiled out of humor. The Nazi was a short women with black hair. She couldn't be more than a fourth year resident and she didn't look very intimidating.

"I have five rules memorize them. Don't bother sucking up I already hate you."

As Dr. Bailey led us around to show us on-call rooms she rattled off more rules, they seemed pretty standard for a surgeon. But she had only mentioned four rules.

"Dr. Bailey what's rule number five?"

I askd, just curious, and then her pager went off and we were on the move. A helicopter was landing with a girl having a seizure. When we got her down to a room Dr. Burke came in, we had the seizure stopped, and were now trying to make her comfortable.

"Shotgun it Bailey."

"That means every test in the book, Grey take her up to MRI, O'Malley get her started on IV fluids, Yang run labs."

"Dr. Bailey what do you want me to do?"

Izzie asked. She had been a model through med school and still had the look of one.

"Honey you get to do rectal exams."

Dr. Bailey left the room leaving us to care for this girl, her name was Lyssa. She was 16 years old and was competeing in beauty pagents. She was practicing for the one that night when she had her first seizure. Now it was time to figure out why.
