Exactly two weeks after the game had been announced, it was the last hour and the competitors were in the woods, trying to find a clearing. Linder was pissed.
The clues were obviously like drinking water to him. He had a pretty good guess about where the clearing was. What made him angry, was that he had let his guard down. And it had cost them a tag they had secured from Mason.
If anything, Pierre had done the most.
He quickly explained to Pierre where the clearing was, then told him to go on without him. He'd be there in a short while, he told him.
Linder hadn't been walking for long when he found Riley and he wasn't with Jet.
Perfect.
Riley would obviously be having their tags, he was stronger, and could better protect their tags in the woods.
He stalked Riley, moving aimlessly, while he thought about what he would do when he got closer to him.
He tiptoed behind him, the tag peeked through his pocket. He could so easily grab it and make a run for it.
"I won't let you have the tag so easily."
Linder stilled, then thought that if he wasted even the slightest moment, this chance would be gone. He made to grab it either way.
Riley skillfuly stepped around him and held his hand to prevent him from falling. "You're welcome," he said, smiling at him.
"Oh shut up," Linder pulled his hand way.
His confidence was annoying because he didn't even bother hiding the tags from Linder. He was playing with him, not even considering that Linder might actually take it from him.
"This is futile," Riley kept moving backwards, "Why haven't you considered that I'm more athletic than you are."
That actually had Linder thinking.
"I could even give you a tag," Riley continued. "And a five second head start and I'd still catch up and get it from you. But I'm not evil like that."
Linder should have listened and let it go, but he wanted to do this for Pierre more than anything else.
It happened in what seemed like half a second.
"And now I have your tag," said Riley cheekily.
What the fuck? How could he have been so distracted?
He went to reach out for it but just before he could grab it, Riley pulled the tag a little higher, and stepped into the clearing with his back to it, where he was untouchable.
"Oou, lucky me," he said.
Yeah right. He was only toying with him. He knew exactly where it was. And where he was going, his movements had been precise.
Linder felt like the biggest loser on planet earth. It was an ugly feeling. At the end of it all, the winners had been announced.
It was Riley and Jet with four tags, their own and the two they stole last minute. Mason and Zel came last with no tags. Linder and Pierre would have tied at first place if Linder hadn't acted so rash.
They came in second because of the ace tag, which had been given to Linder all along, it also pissed him off that it could have been the ace tag that Riley had taken from him.
"I'm sorry Pierre," the look in Linder's face was defeated as he looked to the beauty before him.
He'd failed him after asking him to trust him. What sort of pathetic person did that?
