With each day that passed, Mason got better. He was a little more of himself besides the eyes full of worry for his niece.

He laughed a little more and seemed to get over it, although he still hoped. But Jet felt he was right. It was only a matter of time.

He finally got to the part where he slept soundly and didn't stir awake at nothing because of worry.

Jet woke up in the middle of the night in his arms. They were a little tight and a yet a little loose in his sleep so Mason didn't move much when he extracted himself from his hold.

Jet got up and left the room quietly not to wake anyone up.

More quietly, he walked out into the dead of night and into the chilly air. He really loved the cold. He felt calmer somehow.

Jet sat on a few steps by the door.

He saw a shadow move and then someone sat right next to him. It was Alexander with a robe on his arm.

"Part of me knew I'd woken you up somehow," said Jet. "Can't you just sleep like a normal human being?"

His laugh was beautiful. "No," said Alexander.

Jet thought after everything that happened, his fear of the darkness would just disappear, but it was somehow persistent, it didn't disappear.

"You look a little angry, little cub," said Alexander.

He was right, because Jet was so fucking fed up. "When will I get over this crap?" He asked with a little pain in his voice.

Alexander knew exactly what he was talking about. "Sometimes, you just need a little more time. Don't worry, you will get over it."

"I want to believe that," said Jet. "But it's hard to."

Alexander watched him for a while before going to stand up. "Get up," he told Jet.

When Jet did exactly like him, he took the robe off his arm and put it over Jet. Waiting for him to put his arms through.

"It's okay," said Jet, despite shrugging into the robe. "The cold is okay."

"You like freezing, I don't like you freezing," Alexander said while he tied it securely. "There, that's much better."

Jet was glad Alexander couldn't see the color of his face so easily.

He still avoided looking at him directly, nevertheless.

"I want to show you something," Alexander led him to the garden and held his hand out to him at the gazebo.

Once he had it, he pulled him close and swayed their bodies like he was dancing, although there was no music at all. It was so sappy but it still made Jet's cheeks warm.

The Master held the back of his head as his forehead rested against his shoulder. "Close your eyes," he said softly.

The man complied, he knew. His hands trembling slightly as he held onto the Master. Swaying where he led. Completely comfortable in his strong arms.

"Now, open them," said Alexander.

When Jet did, he saw the garden alight with the most beautiful lights everywhere, twinkling in the darkness like a thousand stars.

He couldn't tear his eyes away. Every direction he turned was glowing beautifully, he even forgot about the darkness at the moment.

When he turned back to Alexander, his breath caught when he found that the man was already looking at him. His eyes so fucking intense that Jet almost looked down.

His expression looked almost pained, like the man in his arms meant so much he couldn't bare it. When they'd first come to the house, Jet could never see this coming, he could never even picture it.

Jet tried to stop darting his eyes to that beautiful beautiful mouth of his, it sucked for his self control that they were partly open.

The Master drew him closer, never taking his eyes off him. "There's beauty in the darkness too, you just have to appreciate it," said Alexander. "Tonight, I'm looking at it."

Jet gasped as Alexander brushed some hair away from his face and soft lips met his. So soft he got lost in them.

The kiss alone, warmed Jet up to his toes. It was soft, and yet so fucking intense.

They finally pulled apart and Jet's head went back to rest on his chest and shoulder, while he peered at all the little lights.

"Besides," Alexander said. "I'll always protect you."
