"Wake up! Wake up!"
Fili immediatly opened his eyes. A loud metallic thud rang out just below the place where the dwarfs slept, followed closely by more thuds.
Just as the dwarf was about to stand up, some of the group cried out. The floor... it swayed.
Before the company knew it, huge floor slabs fell down below them, causing dwarves and hobbit to tumble down. They hit brutally, sliding deeper and deeper into the mountain on the smooth stone. In doing so, they rolled over several times, hit each other, hit the rough rock walls and repeatedly fell several meters in free fall.
The walls were lit by flickering lights that grew ever brighter. Fili had already completely lost orientation when the tunnel opened down again and the dwarfs landed with full force on the wooden floor.
Fili let out a painful groan. The slide had probably ended. But where? In response to that question, ugly screams rang out from the cave. The dwarfs looked up, startled. A whole horde of goblins came trampling on them, their long and thin fingers already gripping the company.
"Look out! Look out!" someone called.
The dwarfs got to their feet. The goblins fell on them, pulled and pulled on them and pushed them in the direction from which they had come. Fili and Kili had their backs to a fence that surrounded them all when the goblins advanced on them and grabbed them.
The company began to defend itself against the attackers, Fili tried hard not to be separated from his brother. Unsuccessfully. It took three goblins to drag him from where he had just been standing.
"Get back!" Dwalin shouted, punching several goblins in their misshapen faces.
More and more of the beasts came climbing up the rocks, nimble as weasels, until the dwarfs no longer saw their own companions for the goblins.

The dwarves were being pushed apart and in the only direction there was. Bifur was pushed onto a bridge, behind him, Fili could just pull himself out of the nasty grip of the cave figures and stumbled forward. Before he could react any further, more of these creatures came and grabbed him tightly by the arms and shoulders to be extra sure that he wouldn't try to flee anymore.
"Get off! Ge your hands off me! Get off me!" Dwalin shouted from further back. In the meantime the goblins had completely separated the group from each other and led them deeper into the mountain with beating, shoving and lashing.
Fili was pushed forward until a gigantic cave in the middle of the massive mountain opened before his eyes. Filled with roaring noise, created by these creatures who crouched on ledges and gazed, who climbed up next to them and laughed angrily. The cave was expanded with wooden scaffolding, countless rickety bridges, full of other goblins. It was all like a city. A hideous rhythm boomed in Fili's ears when he looked up to see a group of goblins who played on skulls, hit metal plates and drummed on buckets and kettles.
The dwarf made out a huge figure on a rickety throne to which he and his comrades were probably being led. The throne stood at the end of a wooden platform, which was attached to the rock with beams and boards. A hideous chant rang out continuously, with even more hideous text, sung loudly by all creatures present.
The figure on the throne turned out to be a huge goblin, obviously the king or leader or whatever position these underworld beasts had given him.
His skin was pocky, sore and greasy, a few straggly hair peeking out from under the bony crown.
The Goblin King performed a little dance in front of the dwarves' eyes until he dropped onto his throne with a loud thump.

"Catchy isn't it?" The huge goblin eyed the unexpected visit among his entourage.
"It's one of my own compositions." he praised his song in front of the assembled crowd and was noisily celebrated for it.
"That's not a song!" Balin, who stood directly behind Fili, bravely raised the voice, "It's an abomination!"
The statement made by the white-bearded dwarf was not particularly well received by the cave dwellers. They started screaming and yelling.
"Abomination." the king raised his scratchy voice "Mutations. Deviations." he said, "That's all you're gonna find down here."
The Goblin King watched as his subjects began to gruffly disarm the dwarves. They threw all weapons at the feet of their king, who immediately stumbled down from his throne.
"Who would be so bold as to come armed into my kingdom?" he asked angrily as the many swords, knives, hammers and axes fell to the ground in front of him. He stomped down from his throne and eyed the company angrily.
"Spies? Thieves? Assassins?"
"Dwarves, Your Malevolence." one of the goblins replied obsequiously.
"Dwarves?" the Goblin King rumbled angrily.
"We found them on the Front Porch."
The king immediately gave the order to search the intruders, which was also carried out directly. The bags and pouches of the dwarves, which had also slipped down the stone tunnel and were taken by the goblins, were dumped in front of him.
Silver cutlery, small decorated containers and a few brooches fell to the floor with a clatter when Nori's luggage was tipped out. For a moment, he looked around among his own. Meanwhile, the giant goblin examined a candlestick, which was among Nori's looted objects. With a scornful snort, he tossed the shiny metal over his shoulder.
"Second age. Couldn't give it away!"
The goblin king loomed threateningly in front of the dwarves "What are you doing in these parts?" he asked.
Fili's gaze wandered to his uncle. He was just about to start answering when Gloin grabbed his shoulder.
"Uh, don't worry, lads." he said calmly "I'll handle this." He went before the king.
"No tricks!" he ordered and struck the floor with his scepter, which was decorated with an animal skull, "I want the truth, warts and all."
"You're going to have to speak up." Gloin returned. Only now did Fili notice that the dwarf was no longer holding his good old ear tube to his ear.
"Your boys flattened my trumpet." Outraged, Gloin lifted the crushed piece of metal.
The goblin looked grimly down at the dwarf and pushed away from his throne. "I'll flatten more than your trumpet!" he roared, and as he walked over to the dwarves, he swept several goblins off the wooden platform.
The dwarves panicked when suddenly Bofur slipped between the king and the group.
"If it's more information you want," he shouted, "I'm the one you should speak to!"
The tall goblin grumbled in agreement and looked at the dwarf expectantly. Bofur stared back while it was evident that he was trying to find a start.
"We were on the road!" the dwarf announced loudly "Well, it's not so much a road as a path." he continued.
Dori, Ori and Nori gave each other a puzzled look. Bofur went on to tell.
"It's not even that, come to think of it. More like a track." he improvised. The Goblin King nodded slowly at the dwarf's explanations.
"Anyway, the point is, we were on this road, like a path, like a track!" Bofur raised a finger. "And then we weren't, which is a problem, because we were supposed to be in Dunland last Tuesday..." he ended. Now he looked around the group for help.
Dori leaned forward to him.
"Visiting distant relations!" he said aloud to the Goblin King.
"Some inbreds on me mother's side!" Bofur added.
"Shut up!" roared the giant goblin, stamping his scepter. The smaller goblins around the group squeaked in fright and ducked away.
"If they will not talk!" he exclaimed "We'll make them squawk!" The king turned to all the creatures who were gathered together on the rocks, ladders, bridges and scaffolding and who now began to laugh loudly and hideously.
"Bring up the mangler! Bring up the bonebreaker!" The goblin turned back to the group of dwarves and said, "Start with the youngest!" With these words he pointed to Ori, who was hiding behind his brothers, frightened.
Just as the goblins were about to pull the youngest dwarf out of the crowd, a loud "Wait!" came from the back of the dwarfs.
All eyes, including that of the Goblin King, rested on Thorin, who was now slowly stepping forward.
"Well, well, well." the goblin said and a nasty grin appeared on his round face. "Look who it is."
Thorin looked up at the goblin king with contempt. This smiled dirty at him.
"Thorin," he continued aloud, "Son of Thrain, son of Thror!" The king bowed exaggeratedly "King under the mountain."
When he straightened up, the grin was still not gone from his face.
"Oh! But I'm forgetting! You don't have a mountain. And you are not a king." The goblin spoke to Thorin as if he were a toddler. With his knobbly finger he pointed at the dwarf leader, "Which makes you... nobody, really."
With a satisfied grin on his lips, he stepped away from the group of dwarfs.
"I know someone," he began, "who would pay a pretty price for your head. Just a head. Nothing attached." rejoiced the king. He looked at Thorin piercingly, "Perhaps you know of whom I speak. An old enemy of yours."
A faint premonition crept into Thorin.
"A pale Orc, astride a white Warg." When the Goblin King uttered these words, it sent icy shivers down the spine of all the dwarfs. The company waited for a response from their leader. Latter was silent for a moment and stared angrily up at the goblin.
"Azog the Defiler was destroyed!" exclaimed the dwarf "He was slain in battle long ago!"
"So you think his defiling days are over, do you?" the Goblin grinned. With that he turned to a tiny goblin, crouched on a wooden stand, with something to write on.
"Send word to the pale Orc!" he ordered, "Tell him I've found his prize!"
With malicious laughter, the clerk slipped away on the wooden frame into the darkness of the tunnel.
When he was gone, the Goblin King immediately began to sing and dance again. Like a victory dance, he and his followers stamped to the beat on which one brutal line after the other was sung. The whole tunnel echoed from the noise of these figures, who tugged at the dwarfs as if they wanted to animate them to dance. Fili and Balin kept tearing themselves loose and Dwalin was about to start another brawl.
Other goblins were just about to investigate the dwarven weapons. When one of them pulled Thorin's sword out of its sheath, a loud screeching suddenly appeared. The goblin dropped the sword to the ground as if it had started to glow.
"I know that sword!" The goblin king had withdrawn from his throne in shock, as if he wanted to put enough distance between himself and the sword.
Panic broke out among the goblins around the confused dwarves. They started whipping the dwarves, kicking and snapping at them.
"It is the Goblin-cleaver!" the king cried, "The Biter! The blade that sliced a thousand necks!"
Thorin fell to his knees when another lash hit him in the back.
"Slash them!" the goblin kept shouting "Beat them! Kill them!" Thorin was brought down and several goblins with knives appeared over him.
"Kill them all!" When the Goblin King saw that Oakenshield had already been overtaken, he gave the final order.
"Cut off his head!"
Fili looked panicked at his uncle, on which one goblin now raised the knife to shorten him a head. The blond dwarf began desperately to fight his way through the crowd of goblins in order to reach his uncle.
Suddenly there was a thud, followed by a glaring light, which made the whole tunnel appear as bright as day for a fraction of a second. A huge shock wave hit everyone present, including the goblins who were crouching higher up on the rocks, and caused them to fall to the ground.
It took Fili a few seconds until his blinded eyes could see clearly again and he had propped himself up a little. He saw the outline of a familiar figure, armed with a sword and staff, a pointed hat on his head. Gandalf stepped slowly onto the platform.
Only now Fili discovered the smaller figure next to the wizard. With brisk steps she had hurried next to the wizard, bow and arrow drawn.
Ilèyn scowled around and eyed the Goblin King disdainfully.
"Take up arms!" Gandalf said gravely.
"Fight! Fight!"
