Chapter 42 - Scepter

My clean slate didn't last very long.

The team needed help finding the Scepter.

So I made new suits. I made the Iron Legion. I even upgraded the Stark tower into the Avengers tower.

But I was working on a Compound...it was just about finished.

I created each suit with their own Arc Reactor...because I got mine out of my chest.

Pepper wasn't too happy but she understood.....kinda.

At the moment we were trying to take down a Hydra base...we may have found the scepter.

I fly next to the team and blast the soldiers around us. I flip back and head toward the base, only to run into a shield and get thrown back. "Shit!" I yell.

"Language! Jarvis, what's the view from upstairs?" Steve asks.

"The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield. Strucker's technology is well beyond any other Hydra base we've taken."

"Loki's scepter must be here. Strucker couldn't mount this defense without it. At long last." Thor says.

"At long last is lasting a little long, boys." Natasha says.

"Yeah. I think we lost the element of surprise." Clint chuckles.

"Wait a second. No one else is going to deal with the fact that Cap just said language?" I ask.

"I know....It just slipped out." Steve sighs.

I twist and turn as cannons fire at me, "Ma'am, the city is taking fire." Jarvis says.

"Well, we know Strucker's not going to worry about civilian casualties. Send in the Iron Legion." I fly higher.

"We have an enhanced in the field." Steve suddenly says.

"Clint's hit! Somebody want to deal with that bunker? Thank you." Nat says.

"Stark, we really need to get inside." Steve says.

"I'm closing in." I drop down as a soldier shoots me, I hold my hands up and blast them. "Jarvis, am I...closing in?" I ask as as I blast open a gate. "Do you see a power source for that shield?"'

"There's a particle wave below the north tower."

"Great, I wanna poke it with something." I fly up and shoot down a missile, I watch as it destroys the shield. "Drawbridge is down, people."

"Find the scepter." Thor says.

"And for gosh sake, watch your language!" I chuckle.

"That's not going away anytime soon."

I burst through a window, many men fire at me, "Guys, stop, we gotta talk this through." I shoot out flares from my shoulders and the all get knocked down. "It was a good talk."

"No it wasn't."

I fly through another set of doors and blast a man on his computer, then stepping out of the suit. "Sentry mode." I walk towards the computers and start typing. "Okay, Jarvis. You know I want it all. Make sure you copy Hill at HQ......I know you're hiding more than files." I turn. "Hey, J, give me an IR scan of the room, real quick." I look around.

"The wall to your left...I'm reading steel reinforcement... and an air current."

I walk over to the wall and put my hands on it. "Please be a secret door, please be a secret door, please be a secret door..." I push the wall and it opens. "Yay!" I hurry down the stairs and down a long corridor.
