The next day passes in a blur of waking up with Enzo, exercising, shopping with Daria in the city, and getting ready for the dinner. As I'm latching my small hoop earrings on in my bathroom, I hear the booms of male voices coming from downstairs. My eyes skim over my fitted red dress and I smooth it down over my stomach as Enzo walks in the bathroom behind me, staring into my eyes in the mirror. I smile at his handsome face.
A small smile dances across his lips as he comes close behind me and places his hands on my hips and his cheek against the side of my head. His addictive - and likely, very expensive- cologne fills my nose.
"Ready, princess?"
"As I'll ever be," I reply and he smirks before stepping back and letting go of my hips so I can turn around.
"You look beautiful, by the way," I hear him admire quietly in my ear as we walk out side by side, his right hand snaked around my waist.
"Thank you, sir," I reply equally as quietly and look up to see an amused smile across his lips for a brief second. It erases as we step into the hallway and he drops his hand from my waist, stepping forward to move ahead of me where Anthony is waiting.
I follow them down the stairs carefully in my black pumps and surprisingly find the entranceway empty besides us and Danny waiting at the bottom of the stairs. His eyes skim over me with his usual annoying smirk before turning to Enzo.
"Everyone is seated in the dining room." He tells him and Enzo nods tightly.
We walk down the hallway and around the corner towards the dining room, which from what I have noticed when snooping around while bored, it is more like a Great Hall than a normal dining room. It could easily be used for a wedding reception or major event or party if needed. It's enormous.
As we walk, I fall into step right behind Enzo, with Anthony and Danny behind me. When we reach the doors, Enzo wastes no time in walking inside.
Before I follow him into the room, I feel fingers wrap around my wrist, holding me back a step.
"Remember what I told you," Danny's voice whispers in my ear, "you have to give them a reason to respect you. A good one."
I nod, my eyes still fixated ahead and his hand leaves my wrist as quickly as it came.
"He's waiting," Anthony says in a clipped tone from behind us and my cheeks heat up realizing he witnessed that.
I walk quickly ahead to catch up to Enzo. When I reach his side, he smiles slightly and places his hand on the small of my back, ushering me to a seat to the left of the head of the long wooden table. I sit down slowly as Enzo takes his place at the head seat. Anthony sits to his right.
As I glance around the table at the roughly fifty men trying and failing to suppress their glares to me, I feel Danny's presence on my left. His elbow sweeps against mine ever so slightly as he takes his seat and I pray Enzo didn't see that or the contact in the hallway - for Danny's sake. Although, I'm glad to have him here beside me as one of the only three people I trust in the room. My usual guard Zachary isn't here, who is the only other person in the house besides Daria that I would consider at least semi-not against me.
"Thank you all for coming," Enzo calls out, pulling everyone's eyes to him from me. His tone is commanding and stern, it demands everyone's attention. It's impressive. I rarely see this side of him.
"Tonight, as you must notice, we have a special guest at our monthly dinner." His hand waves towards me.
All eyes flick to me again and I gulp, trying to remain neutral. I should be used to all these eyes on me - I worked at a strip club for god's sake - but it's different here... the looks I'm getting are definitely not the same.
