Running. He was running after Tauriel with such speed he was merely a blur in the dark forest of Mirkwood. He knew he had to catch up with her, to tell her to come back or if needs be, to go with her - wherever it may lead.

Eventually he found her standing before a bridge, as if she was waiting for him.
"Tauriel. Where are you going?" Legolas asked cautiously.
She turned around sharply, startled by his voice.
"To follow them. To find them and help them on their quest. The dwarves need us, Legolas. They cannot fight Smaug on their own." She replied.
"But it is their own fight. It was their own greed that led them to this fate; we have no duty or responsibility to them."
"Well I can't stay in the palace, cooped all day. I want to be out here. To live an adventure of my own."

But as the pair talked, they failed to notice the distant snapping of twigs, and the far away crunch if leaves.
"You don't understand, Legolas. You can never -" Tauriel was suddenly cut off by the sound of a loud screech filling the air. The battle cry of an orc patrol.
"Quickly! Don't let them cross the bridge!" Legolas called to Tauriel.
Immediately they were ready for action, shooting any Orc that got too close. But there was so many of them. Too many of them.

"FIRE!" Suddenly a voice could be heard and just as soon as it reached the elves ears, a flock of arrows landed in the hearts of about twenty orcs. And then, as if by magic, a group of hooded figures ran from the forest and started attacking the orcs, killing them all left and right.

In no time at all, there were no orcs left; just dead bodies and blood everywhere.
"Alright. Regroup and we'll head back to camp." One of the hooded figures said to the rest of the group. She appeared to be the leader and Legolas recognised the voice as the one that shouted 'fire' just minutes earlier.

"Who are you, woman?" Legolas turned to see Tauriel pointing her sword at the back of the strangers head.
"Tauriel." He warned.
The stranger turned, but did not remove her hood.
"I am the person who just saved your life, elf. So I would appreciate it if you lowered your sword." The stranger said.
"Remove your hood first." Tauriel replied coldly.
"Tauriel. Do not be so cold, she did just save us." Legolas said softly.
"I would listen to him if I were you, elf."
"Or what?" Tauriel spat.
"Or I might just have to kill you." The stranger replied, nodding her head downwards, where she held a small dagger at Tauriel's waist.
After a while Tauriel responded.
"Fine." She lowered her sword and as she did so, the stranger also removed her hood.
"I am (Y/N)." The stranger said.

Legolas was speechless, as before him stood the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Her hair flowed down her neck, and her eyes sparkled and danced in the sunlight.
"And what were you doing in the forest, (Y/N)?" He asked.
"I might ask you the same thing. But for the sake of conversation I was setting up camp with my patrol for the night when suddenly one of the lookouts heard an Orc scream. Naturally we came to see what was going on and when I saw you two completely outnumbered, I knew we had to help." She replied.
"We were doing fine without your help." Tauriel spoke harshly.
"Well it certainly didn't look like it. And it might a good idea if you learnt to hold your tongue, she elf." (Y/N) spoke back, with equally as much venom.
"Well personally I am quite grateful." Legolas said, attempting to stop the argument before it went too far, "but I am interested to know who you are, (Y/N)?"
"I am a child of man. Some people call me a ranger, but they would be wrong. And I don't really feel like divulging all my secrets right now, Prince of Mirkwood."
She grinned as she said this and Legolas felt a smile pull his lips as he realised she knew who he was.
"Well, perhaps we will meet again, and then you can tell me more about yourself." Legolas said.
"Perhaps. I have a feeling we will meet again. But for now, goodnight." And with that, (Y/N) pulled her hood back up, turned around and ran back into the forest, followed by her loyal patrol.
Legolas watched her go, and already he was awaiting their next meeting.
