The sun was shining as you and the company continued your journey onward towards the Lonely Mountain. You had been on the road for about a month now and lots had happened. You had some scary moments, moments in which you had feared for your life - I mean, nearly being cooked by a group of ugly trolls wasn't really on your list of things to do when you first set out on the quest! But to be honest, you didn't think you had ever been happier in your life. You had met so many new people, and made so many new friends. More than you had ever had in you whole life.

I mean, at first the dwarves had found it hard to accept you; after all, your grandmother had been an elf, meaning that you too had elvish blood running through your veins. But despite all this, Thorin had found you a crucial member of the company and after a while the whole company had warmed to you. But what was very surprising, was that you had made a strange friendship with the burglar, Bilbo Baggins. You found him a very funny creature, what with his elevenses, brunch, supper, handkerchiefs and many other small things. Personally, you were more of an eat-whatever-you-can-find-to-stay-alive kind of person, yet you and Bilbo got along very well.

And you were talking to your companion now as you rode on your horse across the moors; the sun beating down on your neck as flies swatted at your horse's eyes. The moors were beautiful - they were so open and fresh, they seemed so peaceful and free of secrets. But you knew that wasn't true. These moors were in Middle-earth which meant they probably contained more secrets than a hired assassin!

Suddenly Kili came riding up alongside you and slowed to a speed so he was walking beside you.

"Hello, (Y/N)! And how is your day going so far?" He said cheerfully. A bit too cheerfully, you thought.

"What do you want Kili?" You asked suspiciously.

"Why so cold (Y/N)? Just because someone asks about your day does not mean that they want something!" He said defensively.

"No, not with most people, but with you, Kili Durin, it usually does!" You replied sarcastically. Kili laughed.

"Well, in that case, I was just wondering if you could give me your opinion on a little argument I'm having with my brother over here." He said, gesturing towards to Fili who began riding up beside him. Fili smirked slightly as he looked you up and down and your heart fluttered.

"Ah, Miss (Y/N). Might I say you are looking beautiful today!" Fili said, his smirk growing even bigger at the blush creeping up onto your cheeks. You see, you liked Fili. A lot. And he liked you. You knew this because about a month ago he had confessed his feelings under the stars one night while everyone else was asleep. That same night you had shared your first kiss and also admitted your own feelings. Since that night you and Fili had become a sort of item. The only problem: it was a secret. You had both decided not to tell the company because you didn't want to make things awkward; you also thought that Thorin would disapprove of your relationship - after all, Fili was a royal and was to one day become king and you, well, you were just an ordinary dwarf who happened to be an exceptionally good fighter. Not to mention your slight elfishness.

And yet even despite the fact that you and Fili were together, he still managed to make you blush and stutter your words. But you had to be careful, most of the company could tell you liked each other and some were even suspicious about the pair of you. Especially Kili. He never missed a thing when it came to his brother.

"Thank you, Fili." You replied, "So what was it you two wanted my opinion on?" You asked.
"Well, me and my dear brother Fili were just chatting back there when suddenly we began to reminisce about our past lives. You know, favourite foods, favourite dances, what type of girls, that sort of thing." Kili began.
"Right." You said slowly.
"And then, we began talking about past loves of ours. And dearest Fili seems to think that he has had more loves than I because he is more handsome! And I said that obviously I was the most good looking, what with my boyish charms and irresistible smile." Kili said, a big grin in his face.
"Of course Kili." You said sarcastically.
"And so I decided that the only way to solve this problem was to ask a girl who they prefer. And since you are the only girl on this quest, we have to ask you!"
"What? No, Kili, I really don't think you need my-" But Kili cut across you.
"Oh no, (Y/N), we really do need your opinion!" Kili persisted, a devilish smile on his face. Next to him his brother sat astride his horse, looking very smug. Kili had set you up; he has been suspecting your feelings for a while now and so he has decided to make it obvious, to mess with you. And Fili had done nothing to stop him! The smug look on his face clearly showed that he thought you were going to pick him - you were dating in secret after all. So you decided to play a little joke of your own. Spice things up a little, you thought.

"Well, now you ask, I think it's got to be... Kili! I mean, like he says, he has got that irresistible smile and those boyish charms!" You said, a bit too eagerly. At your choice Kili broke out into a huge smile and even did a little victory dance, although you did notice his skeptical, almost knowing look he shot at you. He saw right through your joke. As for Fili, his mouth just dropped. He stared at you in shock.
"But (Y/N), surely you must notice my...my..." He tried.
"I'm sorry Fili. Kili just has the edge." You said and this time you were the one with the smug look.
"Fine." Fili grumbled.
"Aww! Is poor Fili a saw loser?" Kili teased. You laughed at the scene: Kili teasing his brother at his loss and Fili pouting like a baby.

The stars were out and you and the company had stopped for the night inside a small forest. The rest of the company had gone to bed while you took the first watch. You stood a little way from the camp in order to get a better look at everything.

You were just looking up at the stars, noticing how bright they looked tonight, when suddenly a strong pair of arms wrapped around your waist. Then you felt a warm pair of lips against your neck; Fili. His lips brushed over the side of your neck and you rested your head back into his shoulder, closing your eyes at the joy of being this close to him.
"So, you think Kili is better looking than me?" He murmured into your ear, his lips kissing the sweet spot behind your ear. You smirked slightly; your trick had worked and you had managed to wind up Fili. You loved seeing him jealous.
"Why?" You asked innocently, "Does it annoy you that I picked him?"
"It annoys me that you picked him over me." He continued kissing your neck as his hands traveled up and down your sides.
"Is someone jealous?" You asked, smirking. Fili ignored your question.
"Is he the one here now? Is he the one that holds you and kisses you? Is he the one that makes you feel what you're feeling now?" He asked, huskily. When you didn't answer his grip on your waist tightened.
"Answer me, (Y/N)." He said, almost forcefully.
"No. No he's not." You whimpered out as you fell into total bliss.
"I thought not. Then who is it? Who is it that you love, (Y/N)?"
"You, Fili. You." You said. Suddenly you were whipped around and his lips met yours hungrily. You moaned slightly and you could feel Fili's smirk into the kiss. Your lips moved together perfectly as your hands tangled in his hair and his hands grasped your waist. As you pulled away you bit on his lip slightly.
"It's always you, Fili." You whispered.
"And you love me?" He asked, a hint of nervousness and worry in voice.
"And I love you."
"I love you." He murmured again before going back to kiss you.

Eventually you pulled away again before things got too heated. You rested your foreheads together.
"I'm meant to be on watch." You whispered.
"I know." Fili replied. You pecked his lips again before sliding out of his grasp. You went and sat by a nearby tree.
"Sit with me?" You asked.
"Of course." Fili smiled as he walked over to you.
And there you sat for the rest of the night, wrapped in Fili's arms. After a while you both fell asleep, completely forgetting you were supposed to be on watch. But luckily for you, Kili had just woken up for his shift and as he walked past you to take his spot, he couldn't help but shake his head and smile at the two of you, huddled together. He would wake you before morning and pretend he knew nothing of the secret romance. Like he did almost every night. After all, it was your secret, wasn't it? And what were brother's for?
