Third Person's POV
January 5, 1994
Tonight was the 26th Annual NAACP Image Awards, and Michael and Whitney were to be present at the event. Tonight was the night where they would both announce their pregnancy together and proclaim their love for each other. While also there, Whitney would be receiving the Entertainer of the Year Award, and Michael would also be giving a speech in regards to the recent accusations made against him.
Prior to arriving, they both informed the chairman of the event that they would be making a huge announcement to each other. And to keep their announcement a secret, Michael had his driver drop Whitney off at the event as he went into the event separately. Once he got inside, Michael went backstage while Whitney took her seat in the audience with mother Cissy Houston and her brother Gary Houston, as the award show began.
That night, Whitney won four awards for Outstanding Music Video, Outstanding Soundtrack Album, Film or TV, Outstanding Album, and Outstanding Female Artist.
But now it was time for her to receive the Entertainer Of The Year Award.
Coming to the stage to present the award, Denzel Washington spoke as a photo montage of Whitney was being presented behind him,
"Selling over 4 million copies and setting a record for a solo artist. Congratulations Sister Whitney. And I say sister because in these times, it's important to remember that we are all brothers and sisters. But perhaps even more importantly, we must never forget that love like charity begins at home. So here to sing your praise with love are your brother Gary and the minister of music herself, your mother, Cissy Houston."
Whitney applauded with joy to see her mother and brother take the stage as they both sang a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace.
Once it was over, everyone applauded them as Denzel Washington went on to introduce the Voice,
"Ladies and gentlemen, Whitney Houston."
With that, everyone stood up and cheered, clapping for the megastar as Whitney gracefully made her way towards the stage. She lovingly hugged both her brother and mother, and gave a friendly hug to Denzel Washington as he handed her the award, and Whitney made her way towards the podium.
Before she began to speak, Whitney looked across the stage to see Michael proudly smiling and clapping for the love of his life in the wings. Blowing a quick kiss to him, Whitney turned her gaze towards the audience as spoke over the microphone,
"Thank you, Denzel. Thank you. Thank you Mommy and thank you Gary. It's beautiful. Thank you so much. This feels really, REALLY good and very special. I have to first give honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus, he's always first in my life. My God has brought me a long way y'all. When I was just a little girl in East Orange, New Jersey... With the same hopes and dreams that most little girls had, I could never have imagined that I would have so much to be grateful for. To my baby, Bobbi Kristina. Each day I know a little more about just how deep love can go. Mommy and Daddy, who first taught me about love and strength, and self-respect. My friends, my family, and anyone who has had ever anything to do with my career, I thank you. I humbly accept this award on behalf of many great and gifted African Americans who came before me and who lived and worked and fought and prayed and died to make America a place where people would be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Yes!"
