Although, Lorenzo would much rather keep pestering the cute barista, instead of having to deal with their potential new clients, he was too aware of the consequences that would follow from not prioritising his work.
Today's client was quite a big fish in the industry, meaning that getting on his good side was of utmost importance. Lorenzo despised having to smother people, so for once he had been rather glad that his brother had been present as well. In contrast to him, Alarico was much more manipulative and calculated. He knew what the client wanted and he knew how to persuade them. Despite, Lorenzo not being much of a smooth talker, he took pride in his fighting skills. Violent conflicts weren't a rare occurrence, but he had always been able to resolve those quickly and effectively.
Unfortunately, this wasn't necessary today. After a while, Alarico managed to convince them of his proposal and they signed the contract immediately looking pleased with themselves. They didn't know yet, that they were the ones caught in a trap. The deal was pretty one-sided, it was strange how Alarico always made it look like it wasn't, like they ever had the option to decline his offer.
With a final handshake, the brothers took their leave. They met Matteo and a few other men outside, who were waiting as backup in case things weren't going as planned.
Back in the car, Matteo quickly took control over the radio making sure everyone had to endure his odd taste in music which he delightfully hummed to. However, this time Enzo couldn't be bothered as he was distracted by the contents his laptop displayed. To his delight, his aunt already sent him the information he requested causing a small smile to appear on his face which unfortunately attracted the attention of the pest called his brother.
„Ah fratello, what could your happiness be reasoned in? Whose child was gruesomely crippled or which senora was desperate enough to fall for your act?". Alaric's voice was as always defined by mockery. In contrast to Lorenzo, he already had everything any man could wish for. A beautiful wife and just last year he was able to complete the picture with the birth of his future heir. He despised the reckless lifestyle of his brother, changing from one sexual partner to the other but especially that those sexual encounters weren't bound by gender.
Lorenzo wasn't particularly demanding when it came to choosing his next partner. Although 'partner' would be an exaggeration. He took everything that looked like it could bring him some kind of amusement and satisfy his hunger. Therefore, gender only played a negligible role for him. He was aware, not only through Alaricos constant remarks, that his family may tolerate this, but would never accept someone openly gay in their bloodline. The last one who had admitted to it, had inexplicably died a few weeks later in a car accident. Even if this incident happened a few years back, the memory of the blood splattered rims on his uncle's car was as clear as the day for Lorenzo.
He just answered with an annoyed huff before closing his laptop.
The only thing he'd gotten from the email was the young man's name, address, and schedule at the Starbucks branch. Usually, members of the IT department did better work.
On the other hand, he was less interested in the actual information. He just wanted to show the young man his place, for even if his loose mouth amused Lorenzo, he hated disrespect. In his world a consequence for such behaviour would indisputably be punishment. Whereas in this particular case he thought about just spending a pleasant night with the young man before ultimately throwing him away like all the others before him. Again, a clear grin was placed around the corners of his mouth at the thought of what it would be like to sleep with a blind man. Sometimes his curious nature was stronger than his cool character.
„If I were to take over father's position, I would not allow anymore gay misconduct", explained Alarico. His voice depicting his repugnance. Lorenzo could not make out who his beloved brother was addressing, although the message of his words was clearly directed against him.
"L'uomo comune ragiona. Il saggio tace. Il fesso discute." He suddenly remembered a saying that his mother used to say. So, he contented himself with staring at the passing cityscape and sighted with relief seeing the entrance to the family estate.
He left the jeep before the wheels had come to a complete stop, nodded to Matteo, who let the last song fade away with a hum, and burned his gaze into Alarico's steel-grey eyes, which glared at him haughty, before he swung open the driver's door of his Camaro and demonstratively slammed it close. He could feel the veins on his temple pulsing and he heard the blood rushing in his ears. His brother was always able to make him furious. Alaric was older, he was a leccapiedi and would lick our father's feet if he asked him to. Should he actually take over the position as head of the family, Lorenzo's days would certainly be numbered. Furious, he started his car and left the garage ignoring the sound of the protesting engine.
On a whim he decided that it was time for a coffee.
As he entered the Starbucks branch, purposefully walking with ambitious steps to the sales counter, where the slim, blond-haired man he had hoped to meet was arguing with an elderly lady. „Of course, a cappuccino is hot. It's not my fault if you burn your wrinkled lips on your own stupidity", sassed the employee. The lady made an indignant noise that rather sounded like a kicked Chihuahua than an actual human as Lorenzo relentlessly pushed her aside.
„Go on a date with me", he ordered without any hesitation.
