Looks like I'm back to my dull old life again, Levi thought as he waited behind the counter for the next costumer. He couldn't even pretend to be happy right now as a certain someone kept on forcing his way back into his mind. Just today he caught himself several times wishing that the black coffee someone ordered would belong to him.
"As expected, forgetting him is going to be very hard", he muttered.
"Forgetting who?" the chirpy voice of his co-worker, Sally, suddenly asked.
"No one" and it pained Levi very much that this had actually been the truth now.
"Girl, you can't fool me. You wouldn't be making a face like that if it had just been no one, would you? So, spit it out. Sometimes it helps to just talk it out". Sally really seemed to hold honest concern for the younger one in her voice which seemed to have somewhat affected Levi. She herself had always been very open about her concerns and problems around him so why not talk about his for once too?
"Well, there was this guy-"Levi began.
"Omg was he hot?" she intervened excitedly but quickly calmed down as she noticed his annoyed expression "I'm sorry. Go on".
"Anyway, we kinda started off as friends with benefits but lots of things happened and suddenly, I found myself head over heels for him. After some time, I really thought he'd feel the same way about me too but I guess that was a mistake on my part". Levi decided it would be better to not tell Sally that he had been talking about the same guy that offended her a while ago.
"I see and what makes you think that? I mean, no offence, but if he really only was after your butt wouldn't anybody work? He didn't sleep with anyone else in the meantime, right?" Sally stated.
Although Levi always suspected it, he never really asked Lorenzo about the disgustingly sweet perfume smell clinging to his clothes. Suddenly, the thought of him sleeping with other people made him go red in anger. What had he been thinking? That a player like him would throw away his principles and dedicate his life to one person alone? "I'm such an idiot" he began sobbing.
"Wait, he did? I'm so sorry baby. He's a jerk for hurting you like this", she cooed while dragging him to the break room "You know we are young independent women. We don't need guys to take care of us only to make us cry in the end".
At that a soft chuckle escaped Levi's lips "You are aware that I'm a guy, right?".
"Whatever makes you happy sis", she joked while embracing him.
"You are so weird" Levi laughed.
"Hey, I don't need to hear that from the guy that pours more sugar in his coffee than actual coffee", she sounded quite offended as she viciously poked him.
"Don't judge me for having childish taste buds", he pouted.
"Aww you are much cuter than I expected. How about joining me for a little karaoke night in my apartment. I bet this will take your mind off things at least for a bit."
Levi considered it for a bit "Are you sure you want to hang out with someone like me?".
"What are you shy? Of course, I'm sure. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, don't you think?" after that Levi couldn't help but agree. He never thought about making any friends but the idea intrigued him.
Honestly, he was so glad he got to spend time with Sally. She is actually a pretty funny and down-to-earth person and not the arrogant chick Levi presumed her to be. Together they sang to their hearts content until their throats began hurting. Afterwards they began talking about the latest gossip while stuffing their faces with chips and ice cream.
At 10 pm he decided that it was time for him to go home. He thanked Sally and promised to hang out again sometime. It was quite cold outside due to it almost being winter but Levi couldn't afford a thicker jacket. Soon he has to struggle through everything alone again but somehow it felt less depressing than it did before. Trying to be angry at Lorenzo really did nothing for him so he thought about their good memories. How he snuggled closer to him while they slept together or the time he threw up after going on that rollercoaster with him. Ahh...somehow I feel very lonely, he thought as he wandered through the dark alleys towards his new apartment which was actually pretty close to Sally's.
"Guys isn't that our cute little Levi", a voice behind him sneered.
"Not this f*ckface again", Levi sighted.
"What did you just call me?".
"Oh my, did I just say that out loud. My apologies", he didn't care anymore if they want to beat him up so badly why not just get this over with.
"Looks like your boyfriend isn't there to protect you anymore, huh? Too bad, he must have noticed how disgusting you are." one of them said as he pulled the smaller one up by his shirt.
"Careful there. Unless you actually want to kiss me"
At that he quickly pushed Levi away his face contorting with disgust "Gross, I'm not a faggot. I have standards".
"And with standards you must mean girls that spread their legs for just about anyone with a dick hanging between their tights, right?" he heard the other guys snickering which must have been the final blow for their friend as he slammed his fist into Levi's face. He tried to not make any noise as they were now all together kicking and punching him not giving them the pleasure of showing them his pain. After one particularly hard kick to his gut he felt something crack. He spat out some blood and noticed that it was getting more difficult to breath.
"Shit guys, I think we overdid it. Let's go before someone sees us", someone nervously stressed and off they were.
"F*cking pussies", Levi breathed out. He felt like dying and every bone in his body hurt. He couldn't stand up or afford calling the ambulance either. "F*ck this shit", he cursed as he slammed his fist into the ground which he instantly regretted as he caught up more blood. Even though he was in this much agony the thought of never seeing Lorenzo again hurt him even more. There was just no way he was going to die like this. He still needed to give him a piece of his mind. In this moment Levi didn't know if it was because of him starting to get delusional but he found himself calling Lorenzo and most surprisingly he even picked up. Before Lorenzo could say anything, Levi sobbed angrily "You f*cking piece of shit. You can't leave me like this".
"Levi, what's going on? Why are you crying?" Lorenzo asked concerned ignoring Levi's previous comments.
"It hurts. It hurts so much I can't breathe", he cried out. He wasn't talking about his physical pain but he wanted Lorenzo to know how much he has been suffering without him there.
"I'm coming, alright? Try to calm down I'll be right there so keep on talking, please", Lorenzo panicked, visible in his slightly trembling voice.
"You know, I didn't want to fall for you. But I just couldn't help it. Even though you always had someone else's smell on you I kept on clinging to you like an idiot. I must have looked so stupid", somehow all the pain began fading and he couldn't even cry anymore.
"You are not an idiot, Levi. Listen to me all of this is my fault. Because I'm a coward. Okay?" but he stopped responding closing his eyes and drifting away only to be awoken again by rough hands shaking his shoulders.
"I'm here. I won't leave you alone any more"
Levi couldn't help but cry into Lorenzo's warm embrace weakly slamming his fists against his chest "I hate you".
"I know you don't mean that", Lorenzo whispered as he softly kissed his head.
"Jerk. Stop playing with me".
"I am not. I love you, Levi." he said warmly caressing his face.
At that Levi completely broke down "I don't care anymore" he mumbled before lifting up his head to kiss the other.
"I love you too"
