On the ride back, I sat in silence contemplating everything learned so far.
Abraham didn't put up a fight whenever Glenn demanded we go back to the church this time. Part of me hoped he was becoming more of a team player than his usual ways of 'won't take any answer but his own'.
Looking out the window, I notcie more familiar surroundings as we get closer to the church.
Was everyone else even there anymore? Have they already ventured in to following us? What would we tell them once we saw them again? Will we even be able to find them again if they've already left the church to begin with?
Nervously, I pull at the necklace around my neck. How would they take the news of Eugene's lie to begin with? I could see how much it was affecting those I was with.. especially Maggie and Abraham. Would Rick and Abraham start picking fights against each other again? Have Daryl and Carol even came back yet?
"Well shit," Abraham grunts angrily.
"Oh god," Maggie mutters, covering her mouth.
Desperately, I clammer to view out the front window, nearly trampling Kate.
The church doors were boarded shut, but the sight of walkers was still evident through the crack they were clawing at. The windows had the same treatment with boards.. by the steps stood metallic poles that looked suspiciously like parts of the organ from inside.
"There! They're safe!" Glenn points to the left.
In the yard, Michonne, Carl, and Gabriel stood side by side. They watched the doors with guarded and defeated faces, worn out from the fight they must've put up.
"Here for security.. Everyone hold on!" Abraham announces.
Bracing ourselves for whatever he had planned, we cling to each other. Abraham steps heavily on the gas, sending the front of the firetruck into the steps leading to the doors, effectively blocking the doors better.
Glenn peers out the window, deciding it's better if he takes his gun out just in case. I can't help but follow his lead. Then, Kate does the same.
Everyone begins climbing out, Abraham first. I'm behind Maggie who is immediately greeted by Michonne.
"Jade!" Carl calls, rushing forward.
"Carl," I cry in relief, my steps quick as I run into his arms, careful of Judith who was strapped to his back.
"You're back," Michonne says, confused and happiness both in her tone.
"Eugene lied.. He can't stop it. Washington isn't the end," Glenn explains as Carl and I slwoly deatch from our hug, still keeping a single arm around each other.
"Where is everybody?" Glenn asks, looking around then back to Michonne.
It's as if reality sinks in as Michonne goes from a look of anger to a bright smile. She looks to Maggie, walking over to grab her hand.
"Beth's alive," Michonne says.
Kate's head snaps in their direction, mouth opening though a word doesn't come out.
"She's in a hospital in Atlanta. Some people have her, but the others went to get her back," Michomne continues more throughly.
"Do we know which one?" Maggie asks, voice wavering.
"Grady Memorial," Michonne confirms.
Maggie's hands go to her head in shock, tears quickly streaming down her face as she turns to Glenn's arms who was already open for her, smiling just as wide as I was.
