The next morning when I went to walk out of my cell I came face to face with Carl who was still in the midst of getting dressed. We stumbled around each other awkwardly causing Rick to chuckle from his seat. After seconds of us trying to get around each other we stopped moving and looked at each other in disbelief and annoyance.
"Would you two just pull yourselves together and make up already?" Rick groans as he bounces Judith on his leg.
Our eyes widen and we look over at the man in shock then back to each other. It was the first time someone called us out on our new relationship with each other. Our mouths move as if we were trying to form words but nothing came out. Eventually, we gave up and decided to walk opposite ways of each other completely.

It wasn't long until there was a disturbance. Gunshots and people screaming filled the air when I was helping Carol cook. A couple girls ran out screaming for help and Glenn ran to the door.
"Jade! Kate! Go to the guard tower!" He orders in midst of his running. I begin to argue but decide against it, turning to the tower and breaking into a jog.
By the gates I notice Carl helping Michonne in. Maggie runs down and meets me halfway there. We open the gate as Carl fires a shot at a walker. Carl runs to get the horse and Maggie and I help Michonne off the ground.
Once the gate is securely closed, we make sure everyone's okay. Michonne was the only injured one, something was wrong with her ankle. She stayed upright by propping onto Carl and I's shoulders. Our arms were wrapped around her waist, our forearms brushed every once and awhile making me lose focus now and then.
We explained everything to Rick and he repaid it by explaining what happened in the cell block.
"Patrick got sick last night. Some kind of flu, it moves fast. We think he died and attacked the cell block," He shakily answers.
He turns to Carl immediately, "Look I know he was your friend and I'm sorry. He was a good kid. We lost a lot of good people."
Finally, he turns to Maggie and I, "Glenn, Kate, and Hershel are okay but they were in there. Shouldn't get too close to anyone that might've been exposed. At least for a little while."
I look to the ground momentarily feeling a pang of hurt. I couldn't be with three people I loved because they might get sick too. We began to walk away from Rick, finding a place away from the exposed.
--
As we sat in the cafeteria, the silence was deafening. Beth was wrapping Michonne's ankle in a cell as Carl and I sat quietly at a table. A few glances to each other caused me to lose my mind a little more each passing second.
Rick's words from this morning echoed in my head. I ran my hand through my knotting hair and moved around in my seat. Carl looked over and started to show a cocky grin as he realized how close I was to breaking. I glared at my shoes before sighing.
"Carl-" I began only to be cut off by the shriek of Judith's cry.
We both jumped and looked over to the door.
Beth walked out, holding a whimpering Judith. She flashed an apologetic smile and began bouncing the baby to quiet her. Once she walked away, singing softly, we looked at each other. He gave me a look that asked me to continue but instead I got up and walked away.
--
The next day was just as chaotic, if not more. It was announced that the ones who weren't exposed have to go into quarantine. The youngest and the oldest had to be kept away. Carl and I were assigned the leaders of the quarantine group.
