"Sweetheart, have you thought about what we discussed?" My mom's soft voice made me look up from my phone. I looked at her with questioning eyes.

"About what?" I prompted, putting two teaspoons of sugar into my tea. I grabbed one scone from the cake stand and placed it on my dessert plate.

"About you getting an office job in the company?" Mom sensibly opened up. She was very careful with her words because she knows how sensitive I usually am about this topic. "You know naman that you taking up Psychology was the last freedom your dad and I gave you. The person expected to take the CEO position in the company never changed, regardless of what happened between your dad and I. And as much as possible I want you to get more experience in the management field."

"But Ma, I do all that with tita Carrie," I reasoned, taking a bite of my scone.

"But I want you to start handling minor caseloads. I don't want you to just do observations and secretarial work. Soon enough, your tita Carrie will have her hands full with Yves. It's not only going to slow down your learning, but Yves' learning as well." She explained and she stirred away on her cup of coffee.

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.

"Maybe after exams," I spoke, hoping that despite the nonchalance in my voice and expression, she'd take my statement seriously.

"Is it really the exams? Or your parties?" Mom placed her cup back onto the saucer and let out a heavy sigh, "You think I wouldn't notice? This week alone I know you've been out for at least 4 parties, 3 of them on a school night."

I, once again, looked away from my phone screen.

"Breyar, you're approaching the last sem for this school year, soon enough you'll be preparing for your graduation requirements. In less than 2 years our investors are going to start assessing your competency as the company's future CEO. If you don't want the board to deem you incompetent and not let you inherit the position, then we have to convince them. Believe me when I say that 2 years won't be enough time to shape you into one. Regardless of how smart you and I think you are."

I loosened the grip I had on my phone. Tila hindi ko mabalewala ang sinabi niya.

"Alam ko mom, but its not like I'm neglecting my studies right? I'll be quitting my sport teams when they hold auditions for the next school year anyway, 3 months na lang." Tugon ko in hopes to give her assurance.

"And the parties? I know its been a while since Kiko and Reign stopped attending."

Sumikip ang aking dibdib. Masyado akong naging occupied sa mga recent events na nangyayari sa personal kong buhay na muntik ko nang hindi napapansin ang unti unti kong paglayo sa mga kaibigan ko. Halos dalawang linggo na akong hindi nakapag catch up sa kanila - ang huling beses na nagawa ko ito ay noong pagsama ko kay Denise sa isang party.

Reign has been spending most of her time out of campus for her practicals, Kiko and Lenn being the most studious out of our group has been attending after school sessions, I haven't caught up with Mhaii because she has been rejecting all the party invites while Denise has mostly been sorting out her requirements for the next school year.

Lahat sila merong prinaoritise, maliban nalang sa akin. Syempre nagkikita kita parin kami during lunch but conversations does not go outside revisions or subject topics. Ni hindi ko nga pwedeng mailabas ang topic nang social events eh dahil alam kong hindi rin naman nila ma e-entertain iyon.
