8: Vision
"What a day!" Denise exasperated as she placed her books down carelessly onto the picnic table. She inserted herself into the space between Mhaii and Kiko. We all could tell she had a very frustrating day because everything screamed grim just by looking at her.
"Anyway guys, I have an announcement to make," Kiko interrupted, "Well, actually it's more of a favour."
None made an attempt to say anything. It's in our notes that any favours Kiko asks of us is no good. What you do in this situation is that you pretend she doesn't exist or pretend that you didn't hear her. Don't even share eye contact with her when she asks for a favour.
"Even if it's just one of you, I need someone to come with me out of town for this year's community chest."
We all looked away. Helping and working wasn't really our thing. Kiko's only doing it because she's a member of the school's student council. Last year, it was her brother that accompanied her but now that he has graduated, she is now looking for a new partner.
"Kiko, you know I can't right? Isn't my hockey an enough excuse?" I validated. At least out of all of us, I had the most legit reason. The rest of the girls gave me a miserable look. Ha.
"Just bunk it then," Denise retorted. We all laughed at her childishness. Honestly, how can someone like her be a Politics student. Ah! Speaking of which, she had an assessment today too! Now I know why she's a bit out.
"Will it be a bit too much if I ask you, Denise?" Kiko spoke hesitantly. Lenn and I looked at each other with frightened expressions. Denise? Working? I'd love to see her actually try before I die.
"It will be too much actually," She turned away crossing her arms. Kiko made Denise face her and made a pouty face. I shook my head because of their idiocy.
"You do know you will be getting achievement points right?" Our eyes twinkled after hearing Kiko's statement. If anything, it will be achievement points that will make us crazy enough to do all the dirty work - not saying that the school's charity organisations are dirty work, I mean the other dirty work. Literal dirty, as in, mud, worms and hard work.
"How many do you get?" We all asked in unison. This is actually really amusing and so typical of us. It wouldn't make sense for me to do the community chest for points because I get enough of them from doing my sports. I probably have like 78 now. I only asked in behalf of my friends, but looking at it, I really didn't need to.
"5 points per hour," Kiko responded, "But guys, you actually have to work though. You will be wearing a timer while out in the field."
"I'll do it," Denise proclaimed sounding so definite of her response, "These damn school regulations." She muttered under her breath.
Lenn scoffed, "You're kidding! Do you only have like, 10 achievement points so far?"
"2," Denise responded. The girls and I bursted out in laughter. Kaya pala. Itong community chest ang last resort niya para makakuha ng maraming points. I mean, who comes up with the rule of getting 40 achievement points by the end of the year? Our school can be twisted in so many ways.
"No wonder," Lenn laughed, "By the way, I'm heading to the theatre downtown to pick Reign. Her assessment was today too." She added while packing her things away into her bag.
