5: Dasalla
Out of all the days!
I groggily marched across the field with the laziest and heaviest footsteps. When I thought I've lived enough worse mornings.
It's only 5:45 am and we're already out here in the school's outdoor field, preparing to play a practice round of hockey.
Life tip: Don't get excessively happy. Mother nature will work her wonders on you.
I began putting my yellow training bib on for this morning's practice and followed the other girls who were wearing the same colour bibs as I was. I sighed because I had to run a length so I could catch up to them.
The match hasn't even started and yet I was already feeling my weight on my legs. Who am I kidding, of course I would feel this terrible. This is what happens when you get less than 4 hours of sleep, Breyar.
When did I sign myself up for this? Actually, why?
"Girls! Focus!"
Coach's voice rang against my ears continuously reminding me of my unfortunate circumstances. And also! Why did mother nature have to be so savage? Honestly. Couldn't it wait 'till the next day?!
I lowered my hockey stick as I saw the ball heading towards my direction. I ran forward before letting anyone else hit it before me. I have a reputation to protect since I was the team captain. I'd rather suffer the discomfort from my body than getting in a situation where people would question my hockey skills. Losing my credibility as a captain is the last thing I wanted.
The game became too aggressive for my liking as we progressed to our final quarter matches. Everyone was aware that this was only practice and I was too, but today isn't a normal day for me.
"Dasalla! You're slowing down, team captain!" I heard my coach shout.
I bit my lip as I sprinted towards the opposition's area to assist my team's attackers. A field defender passed the ball towards me and I panicked. I turned my hockey stick so the ball would hit the flat face of my stick but did not hit it towards the ball area. I tried to pass it towards my team member but it was too late when they noticed.
An arm rested on my shoulder, "Why did you pass it?" She panted.
Usually, I would be the one to score some goals when I enter the opposition's area, but I wasn't in a comfortable form this morning. Nevertheless, the team I was in, won.
"Last quarter 5-3 in favour of Yellow," Coach announced, "With a total of 12-9 wins, this match's winners are Yellow!" My teammates all cheered and everyone gave praises to each other for how the game turned out. I took my ponytail out as I breathed heavily.
The perks of having to practice early in the morning is that, the air was still cool. It was 7 am when we finished our match and that was also when other students are starting to come in.
