16: First Love
The soft smell of a newly opened shoe box greeted my nose as I lifted the lid to reveal a pair of white Viola crystal embellished sandals from Jimmy Choo's new A/W collection. The crystal sparked as I held it up to check if it matched the embroidered mesh dress from Self-Portrait that I'm currently wearing. I have a birthday party to attend to - a party of someone from the cheer squad. The more reason why I have to look majestic - my normal best won't be good enough.
Why, you ask? Well, the girl practically invited the entire student body of not only our school but our rival school as well. Everyone who's anyone is coming and I know I should not let myself come behind in terms of visuals tonight, not when the birthday celebrant is Aeris, a long term nemesis of mine.
I glossed over my already red matte lip with a liquid lip colour to add a natural shine detail that would look glossy under bright lighting. After all, it's hard to stand out at evening events unless you're glossed and sparkly all over. I propped my hair curlers back in its case, left the room completely disheveled of clothes and accessories, closing the double doors of my bedroom behind me as I took my leave.
"Have fun sweetheart, no after parties okay? I'll be calling Aeris' mother to check up on you," My mom's voice trailed as I reached our entrance hall preparing to exit the house.
"Whatever," I sighed walking towards her to give her a hug, "Good night mom."
"Take care!" I heard my mom's voice call out just before yaya was able to close the door moments after I stepped out to our front yard.
I spotted our driver waiting by the gates indicating that my ride is all ready outside. I slipped under my Reiss wool coat as manong opened the back seat door to let me in. I reached for the seat belt, fastening it around me, and when I did, I fished my phone out of my purse and dialled a number.
I bit my lip when the other line has failed to answer my phone call.
The spiral of warm lights illuminated the venue when I entered. Soft lights of champagne, orange, and purple lights filled the massive hall. A bright modern statement chandelier with Asfour crystals was the center of attention that completed the aesthetics of this classic-chic themed party. Aeris has really outdone herself.
The name card Breyar aligned my sight when I looked for my table.
"B!" Mhaii stood up from her seat and jumped towards me to give me a hug, "Lenn and Reign are sorting out drinks."
"What about Denise and Kiko?" I prompted as I sat down on my co -ordinated seat.
"Powder room," She responded, "This place is awesome, I'm glad I came despite my great dislike towards her." Mhaii retorted as she glanced around the hall, her eyes sparkling as it met the decals of the event.
"I might ask Aeris who her interior teams are, I might hire them for my future parties." She then chuckled.
"Darlings!" A loud voice reached mine and Mhaii's ears.
"Denise," I smiled as we hugged.
"About time! We've been waiting for you!" I noticed Denise turning her head back and forth as if she was looking for someone, "And Yves? I thought you were coming in with him?"
I bit my lip and fumbled with the cutleries displayed on the table.
"At this point Bree, you shouldn't be acting that surprised. Palagi namang ganito kayo di'ba? Ngayon ka pa ba ma didisappoint?"
I sighed. I didn't like how, despite how harsh it sounded, Lenn spoke the truth.
"B, we're kidding!" Denise chuckled, nervously. She probably noticed the gloominess that crept upon my face.
