18: Rivalry
"I'm starving!" Reign exasperated.
I adjusted to a more comfortable position in my seat. Reign and I along with the other members of the representative division of the squad are now making our way towards our rival school to support our football team in the upcoming match.
The 9 members of the representative division only included me and Reign from our friendship group. Denise, Lenn, Kiko and Mhaii are staying behind at our school with their own respective schedule for the day. To fully appreciate this division, hindi rito kasama si Aeris at ang mga underlings niya, so wala akong poproblemahin ngayong araw. Hopefully.
Due to the constant rehearsals and weight checks, almost all 28 of the squad members have not eaten fully for 3 days to maintain our figures. It was also the reason why the school van is filled with grunts and complaints en route to our destination. After all, it is the only time we can complain behind our coaches' backs.
In another story, hunger was not my only main issue. I am about to set foot in Ren's territory. It will ultimately diminish the efforts I've placed to keep my distance from him. And what I've done in the past few days will be for nothing because this time, I am the one who will be closing that distance and not in the slightest am I prepared for it.
It doesn't help the fact that the vans carrying the football team has apparently left our school grounds and are now making their way as well. Great, double whammy.
I slumped in my seat and dropped my head on Reign's shoulder.
"Don't worry Bree, I have a plan," Bulong ni Reign, I eyed her suspiciously worried that she had caught on, "May alam akong short cut to the nearest fast food, I asked a friend from Burnley to help us."
I grimaced and returned my head on her shoulder. She was just talking about food, scaring me for no reason.
We reached Burnley International after 45 minutes of travelling, it would have been shorter if we had not been delayed upon entering the school due to the sudden congestion of incoming school vans. So much for organisation.
The parking area consisted mostly of school vans and buses from our college, 5 vehicles per school teams and around 15 school buses carrying the non competing students to watch the matches. Additional set of buses will also be arriving later from what I know. Denise, Kiko, Lenn and Mhaii will be in those buses.
As our van parked, we scurried through the pile of bags behind the van to retrieve our own bags. We then had to follow our coaches to the PE department of the campus.
We were in the middle of face painting our school colours on our cheeks when our lead coach entered the changing room carrying packets of armbands, knee bandages and hair bows to complete our uniform. She started distributing according to our positions, leaving me as last.
"Captain," She smiled as she approached my direction, extending her arm to give me an arm band with the word captain embroidered on them.
"Thanks coach."
The rivalry between our school - Bordeaux Academy, and our rival school, Burnley International have been going on for the past 50 years since the two establishments opened. It hones, mostly, children of the business industry and because it caters for the rich, the facilities are something you'd experience similar to private schools in developed countries - countries belonging to the North American continent, European continent and the East-Asian countries.
It attracts students from neighbouring Asian countries because of its teaching system that allows their students to experience not only the academic sector but to also recognise their physical skills that excelled in the areas of music, sports, and the arts.
