20: Demerit
Everyone wouldn't stop talking.
With the events of yesterday still fresh in everyone's minds, talks as well as mentions of my name, Yves' and Ren's roared everywhere and around the campus. The severity was to the extent where Yves and I got called to the office for our counsellors and teachers to check up on us. Making sure we were managing okay during the day.
I felt ashamed to face Yves in light of the current situation. After we were dismissed from the office, I avoided his attention.
It is the second day of the matches and from what I heard, Burnley has taken extra precautions to prevent a similar occurrence from happening.
Yves caused a massive upset between the two instituions and as a result, this year's sporting events were almost cancelled due to the magnitude of the incident yesterday. However, I believe after taking Ren's account of what happened, they didn't think it was necessary to bestow Yves a great punishment. They concluded that it was just one of those field fist fights that had gotten out of hand. Ren apparently requested that no action was to be made against Yves, he even went as far as shrugging it off as friendly rivalry.
No one questioned it any longer and everything seemingly has returned to normal, all that's really left are the memories from yesterday's event. Gossip crowd has taken advantage of the situation and turned it into teen entertainment - as silly as a love triangle story.
Entertaining, but I knew it was something deeper.
I blocked Ren from my contacts and social media upon learning the truth from April and I never looked back. I don't want to look back.
I was glad that the squad didn't have to be present in today's events as the only participating sport teams were Tennis and Badminton.
Like yesterday, half of the student population are currently at Burnley's to watch the matches while the other half are in lectures.
Burnley changed a couple of activities today in order to lessen the tension between the two schools, I heard they added primary school games like dodgeball and capture the flag in the schedule.
As of the moment, it is lunch time. The squad has booked the sports hall for rest of the day to rehearse for the full group performance that will be happening tomorrow. I haven't joined the rehearsal as I had to be excused for a while because the head of the department wanted to see me. It was the reason why I was in the office with Yves.
I took my time on the way back to the sports hall, feeling downcasted than usual. I didn't feel like doing anything or interacting with anyone.
Instead of taking the corridors that lead to the sports hall, I ventured to take the path that took me to the school's cafe to get myself some tea. I needed a break. I guess this whole thing was slowly taking its toll on me. I'm only just noticing how physically draining this can be as it is emotionally draining.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips when the cafe didn't have a lot of students around. I wanted solace and I think I am finally getting it here. I checked into the counter and ordered my usual plain black tea and proceeded to settle in one of the tables by the corner.
I poured milk and sugar and stirred it altogether with the hot drink. While I occupied myself with my beverage, I failed to notice the group of students who entered the cafe. I looked up, only to meet the incoming figure of Yves and together with him were 3 other male students who I recognised were his friends.
I plastered a pseudo smile on my face as he joined me in the table.
Cupping the cup of tea I had in front, I met his eyes, "I'm guessing you're here to explain what happened yesterday?"
