Chapter 13 | Runaway Baby

It's been few days and now it's Wednesday, you spend your whole weekend at Wilhemina's house. Well, you thought that nobody's going to look for you since the twins are still ignoring you. Plus, Wilhemina said that she talked with Mrs. Tyler about your absence at their restaurants and nightclubs.

You feel a lot better, your wounds are slowly drying and healing, and your bruises are gradually fading away. However, your motor is still at the workshop so Venable lends you her extra vehicle together with her extra driver so she'll know where you are. 

There are no classes for everyone since the intercollegiate is being held this week. A lot of sports competition has already started like basketball, wherein their finals will be later so the volleyball can now start since both sports are held at one gymnasium. 

Some hours later, your whole volleyball team was called for a meeting. "Since Andrea wasn't able to join our game due to some scandal that has happened," Miss Wilson adjusts the placement of her eyeglasses while looking at her clipboard. "(y/n) will be your new team captain. Good luck ladies, you know what to do." Then she dismissed everyone but you're standing there, shock as another responsibility has passed to you. 

"Congratulations, captain. What's your plan?" Nikki, one of your closest players on the team nudges your arms as she squeals excitedly. 

"You know, the usual game plan." You actually don't have anything in mind since this is happening all of a sudden. You're not prepared and nobody even knows that you had an accident lately. 

Before you know it, it's your time to compete. Players are at the court, the crowds are going crazy since most of them are from your university. You let your eyes wander as your team is in a huddle, looking for the twins or Lana. Unfortunately, none of them are present.

"(y/n), are you ready?" Miss Wilson waves her hand to get your attention. Since your friends are out of sight, your mood changes and you don't feel like playing right now.

"I'm sorry, Miss Wilson. My leg suddenly hurts. Cramps?" Lying your way for you not to play, she has no choice but to let you rest first.

The game ended but luckily your team won the first play. You'll be competing after two games once again so you were given some time to take a break. 

You entered the university building as you plan on getting some textbooks from the library because finals are near. As you're on your way to the library, you saw Bette from afar and she's heading upstairs. You run as fast as you can but heard the sounds of a cane echoes through the hallway.

Knowing that Wilhemina is nearby and you don't want to see her right now, you panic while you search around on which turn is she coming from, you sprint to the nearest turn but bump yourself with someone else. Papers and folders of documents are scattered on the floor as it explodes from the force of the collision. Your head peaks back if she's near. Since you still got time, you help the person to pick up the papers and folders. 

"Are you kidding me?" You lowly hissed then tilted your head as you're handing the documents to the person and it's your professor. "Oh, I'm sorry Miss Winters." Switching your mood as you give her an apologetic smile together with your statement to look more sincere.

"It's alright, Miss (l/n). Be more careful next time." Her hands take the papers while her eyes roam on your torso, eyeing your bruised shoulder that is exposed from your sleeveless jersey. "Have you got  yourself into a fight again?" The tone of her worried voice calms you and it softens your stiff smile.

Seeing your professor made you forgot your current dilemma about Venable until you heard an indistinct conversation from a distance "Thank you, Miss Venable." You heard Miss Hariss's voice then the clunking noise of her cane continue to get nearer. You want to continue your conversation with Lana so you push her inside the room near your location.
