Summer after your second year of college. Mr. and Mrs. Tyler lend you their house in Seattle, Washington to take a vacation since you didn't want to fly with them to Greenland. You planned to stay there for two weeks since they were probably have returned from their vacation then. When you arrived at their place, the drive was long because the location was very far from the civilization. The house was uncomfortably peaceful since it was distant from the noise of the city.
They have a neighbor named Diane.
Diane seems to be a nice person. Bette said that she has a daughter but at first glance, it looks like she lives alone. There was something about your neighbor that piqued your attention.
In the first few days, you tried to stay at home but there was a time wherein Diane caught you stealing tomatoes in her garden. It made you wanna disappear from existence since you were very embarrassed how she didn't get mad yet give you other vegetables than tomatoes.
Another set of days have passed, she knocked on the door to bring you lunch. She said she made too much so she brought it to you. It was delicious but then you were still embarrassed about what happened the other day.
You were taking a shower after lunch but then the water was cut off. You tried to open each faucet in the house but nothing was working. With no choice left, you wrapped your soap-covered body with a towel then march your way to Diane's.
With all of your dignity summoned up, you rang the doorbell. A few seconds later, the door was pulled open and Diane's expression is immeasurable. "(y/n), what can I do for you?" Her shocked expression softens with a smile.
You can't even look straight at her brown eyes with how flustered you feel. "Hey, Ms. Sherman. My water was cut off, I was wondering if I could finish showering at your bathroom?" Timidly speaking while breaking gazes with the older woman.
"I told you, you can call me Diane." Her soft gaze is welcoming. The lady stepped aside "Come in, the bathroom is on the second floor." Letting you enter her house.
After a while of taking a bath, you observed that there are two more doors which you conclude that the other one is her daughter's. You proceed downstairs to look for Diane and she was in the kitchen, preparing something.
"Hey, thank you for letting me bathe. I should get going."
You were about to walk away but she turned around rapidly. "I'm making lunch, you better come back," Diane shouted before pacing towards you.
"I will, I just need to wear something to be presentable." Letting out an awkward chuckle then heading out after reassuring that you'll return.
As you've said, you go back to her house and she welcomed you once again. When you began to eat lunch, Diane interrogated you about your life, and you were getting to know her as well.
With all of the curiosity on your mind, you didn't mean to ask her about her daughter. A little bit of silence after that question but she answered it by saying she's gone to college and missed her every day.
After eating, you went back to your house and it's almost sundown but you feel suddenly sleepy. Your neighbor is a nice person but she just looks like she needs some rest. Ms. Sherman is a beautiful lady, she's sweet, and probably a great mother.
Just thinking about mothers, you suddenly remember your mom. She's sweet, loving, and beautiful like Diane. You reminisced about how your mom always spoils you with hugs and kisses. Then recalling the past, you remember that when you were nine you broke one of her ukelele's strings, you cried your heart out because you sneak out to use it. After this, she gifted you your very own guitar.
