Don't Give Up (Re-written)

I'm deleting the original version because while I like the plot, I don't like how it came out and I want to try again especially now that we know of the world in AOT. I don't know if there will be other parts, doubtful.

The reader is a female and the name is Elizabeth/Liza/Lizzie

        I woke up to muffled yelling and a loud ringing in my ears. I had been thrown from horse as I patrolled when there was a large blast. I don't remember much other than people screaming.

"Liza, we have to move!" A voice told me before I was dragged into a darker setting. I began to fully wake up and saw Hange who was bleeding and looking more frantic than normal

"What...what happened?!"

"The walls are gone...they did it...Bertholdt kicked in the last two walls...Reiner has kept our people distracted by drawing in other titans and smashing buildings. I fear they've already gotten to Annie." Hange looked down in defeat

"Where's Eren?"

"I don't know...I think they've taken him."

"Where's Mika and Armin?!" My eyes widen as I tried to shake away the ringing knowing Mikasa was too blinded by love to see when it would be time to let Eren go and fall back

"We had to keep Mikasa locked up to avoid her getting herself killed." I gulped and held my head, listening while Hange explained we have to protect those who are most vulnerable and keep them safe until further notice

"It'll be a fight against the rich and the MP's, but I need you to get on your feet and help if you can."

"I can, I'll go searching for children, I'll get Sasha and Connie to help me." I said stumbling to my feet and I charged out before Hange could say anything else. Things were a bit wonky, but I would deal with the bruises from my ungraceful landing later. I found Connie and thankfully he had already started on protecting kids, but when I asked where Sasha was he looked broken

"She's barely alive...I don't know if she'll make it...so I'm doing this!" He shook his head as he ushered the young, crying group into buildings and basements "Captain Levi said government buildings have tunnels connecting the baement." I nodded and watched the light in his eyes fade at the possible loss of his best friend

"Where is Levi?"

"Last I saw hiding from boulders...you can guess Reiner is making the higher ups his targets, so Hange injected Levi with some weird liquid to knock him out...I guess so he doesn't go off to get himself killed."

"There you are! You found Lizzie, fun thing to wake up to, right?" Jean joked, but you could see the fear in his eyes and I threw my arms around him and hugged him

"Thank goddesses you're alive you idiot..."

"Yeah, who better to spend the end of the world with than Jean boy." Connie smirked pushing in between us and led the way. We found other citizens and some Garrison trying to keep everyone calm as they to get past the gate that the King had put in the tunnel in case of this, to keep out poor people.

(Author's POV) Liza heard Armin pleading with someone to please calm down and she hurried through the halls and found the Ackerman's in separate cells, beside each other, with a worried Armin shakingly holding keys in front of them. Commander Erwin was being tended to by Nifa, a memmber of Hange's squad. Levi threatened Armin with a lifetime of punishments and Mikasa tried to guilt trip him with the idea of Eren being dead because he allowed Mikasa to stay locked up

"Both of you enough!" Liza screamed pointing her swords at them "Fine, you want out I'll let you out." Liza tsked while Mike stood up ready to interfere

"Lizzie no!" Armin cried as she took the keys and looked for the right one

"Are you insane Liza?"

"Elizabeth, they-" Jean scolded her as she cut him off

"No, I'm sick of these two. The end of the world will be far more pleasant once these two are gone and then we'll be left to survive without them, countless innocent lives gone already and these two wanna fufill their ego boosts and why should we stop them?" She said slowly opening Levi's door and then Mikasa's

"You're a dick." Levi glared at her

"Who is a part of a group that needs you sir," Liza turned to look at Mikasa who smelled her scarf "Look I don't know where Eren is, but no one is letting you kill yourself for a suicide mission. You're smarter than this...if he dies, we still have you...we still need you Mikasa. I can't afford to lose any more friends.." Mikasa let out a sigh and looked at Liza. Hange and some of her squad barely made it back alive...then there was a rumbling that made everyone fall, similar to the ones when Berholdt first appeared, they did their best to keep the wounded stable, and some scrambled up to the basement doors to see what was going on.

"Oh no." Jean mumbled as he watched Annie's titan bust out of a basement, holding Bertholdt in her hand. Reiner and Annie left and a trail of titans behind them. People were fleeing and being eaten too quickly for the soldiers to even react. The sun was high in the sky so it must of been about noon. Connie found some supplies to bring down for now, things to keep kids distracted.

"What do we do Corporal?"

"Stick it out to evening, hope they stop for the night...get food and water. Eat any dead livestock..." Levi sighed putting his head in his hands

"We're not gonna follow them?" Jean asked with a scoff of surprise

"Kirschstein...we have too many injured and not enough gas for this...we need a plan. Retreat you two before any titans notice us." The two cadets finished up and climbed back down while Levi informed Erwin and Pixis of the titans. When Sasha passed away later that night, Liza hugged onto Connie, rubbing his back as she buried her head in his chest

"I'm so sorry Connie." She mumbled, Mikasa and the others tried not to cry, but failed and hugged onto each other while Connie stood there in shock.

They were able to bury Sasha and a few others, other bodies were buried, and it was a brutal battle into the castle, but people were safe.
