This chapter takes place in the midsummer of England, the year 1211. I'm putting the chapters written in the past in Italics to show the history of Octavia's life up until the start of Season 2 in my story.

The evening sun was setting just beyond the trees, giving off a golden glow that made everything magical in the light. An eighteen-year-old girl raced towards a meadow filled with wildflowers and berries with her human lover beyond the border of her small yet discrete village. Her long and flowing brown hair swept midway to her back as the wind carried it over her shoulders. Her white dress was covered in grass marks and dirt stains, but she didn't care one bit. For she, just for the night, was free. Free to dance with the wind that carried her from the village. Free to be herself as she smiled up at the golden sky. Free to get dirty as she ripped off the boring shoes that gave her discomfort every day. And lastly, free to be with the human she loved being with times over, Alec.

Octavia Sera was the youngest witch of the Sera coven to ascend to full magical capabilities at the shy age of her sixteenth birthday. For over two hundred years, the Sera witches have been known as the most powerful, sacred, respected, and fearful of all witch covens known to man and beast. With magic connected to the light and dark magic, all Sera witches had various ways of learning everything, whether taught down by blood or learned from others by travel. With Octavia being the sole daughter of Davina Sera, both are descendants of the original Sera witch, her grandmother Katerina Sera. Though the true Sera bloodline had only a few women left, Octavia's grandmother had chosen other strong covens to come together to form the coven as it was now. Bonded by magic gifted to them by nature itself. But with the joining of covens came new threats from various directions.

Vampires.

With both races becoming stronger and more fearful with each passing day, many humans feared their lives, including the witches. Hiding away in their small villages, protection spells and charms kept the creatures of the night at bay. Until very few would venture out to experiment, most would be found dead by morning by neighboring villages. Human limbs hung from trees as larger body parts were strung from branches: a warning from the vampires fed like animals and had no souls. But nothing could compare to the vampires that would follow Octavia and Alec into the woods when darkness fell. Taunting Alec to hurry further, he gripped her warm hand, and each fell into a unison pace.

Octavia was not frightened like the humans and her coven. She was not fearful of the werewolves that hunted alongside the monstrous beasts. What Octavia feared most was the loss of her magic, to be disowned and exiled. With that fear, she became more in tune with those around her because to every witch in her village, she was different. With every generation of witches, a rare gift would be bestowed on one girl—a gift of telepathy, a rare one indeed. Everything about magic came naturally for her, from spells to potions. To others, it came with jealousy and envy. But to her and her parents, everything Octavia did came with a legacy. To her, it seemed like a boring life, but to others of older age, it was means of survival in a cruel world. A world Octavia had yet to see the truth and cruelty. Far from innocent, Octavia had a fire that burned from within her. A fire that somehow caught the eyes of a 2,000-year-old vampire that watched her from the middle of the meadow, lying in wait to attack.

As night fell and descended the woods to blackness, Godric had his progeny hide far up in the trees, blending in carefully and easily. Godric had taken an animal trap from her village the night before and used it to his advantage. Portraying as his young self trapped, he would allow himself to be found too easily. From far above the ground, Eric knew watching from the trees that Godric could easily have this human bend to his will. All pretty things were innocent in this century. But both vampires were intrigued by this girl. She had an intelligence greater than any other elder witch Godric had met and killed before. Her magic was stronger than what Godric or Eric had ever felt in their long and never-ending lifetimes. But the closer the witch and the human got, Godric could smell her blood now. To him, she wasn't just a normal witch. She was a Sera, and now his plan to devour her blood with his child would become harder than what he imagined.
