Time seemed to pass much too quickly, and before they knew it, it had already reached the time of the heist. Neither of them felt ready. Ginzo glanced over towards Kaito, the boy was dressed up as his thief persona, while he himself was clad in dark clothing and a face mask. If one didn't know the other, they'd say that Kaito looked calm. Ginzo knew Kaito though, the boy was a huge ball of nerves.
"Be careful" Kaito breathed, checking the time. He was due to start soon. The thief let out a calming breath, forcing his Kid persona to overtake his own "I'm gonna go play with the task force now!" He disappeared in a small puff of smoke. Ginzo waved his hand in a futile attempt to keep the smoke out of his face, a few moments later he heard a few startled shouts. Kaito had started the heist.
"His job is the more dangerous one..." The inspector grumbled softly as he entered the ventilation system. He knew which routes to take, so making his way to the Moon's Wish had ended up being very easy. Any accidental bangs that he'd made were covered by the ruckus of whatever Kaito was doing. Honestly Ginzo was a bit offended that the other seemed to be using small fireworks occasionally.
When he did reach his destination, Ginzo couldn't help but glower down at the diamond, it looked just like any other gem. Yet it apparently had enough magic in it to turn Kaito into a nervous wreck. Glancing around, he noted that nobody was in the room. Kaito's plan had worked. The inspector waited before dropping to the ground when he heard another round of fireworks going off.
He cautiously approached the gem, squinting at it with suspicion. He didn't see anything off with the glass case... Not wanting to risk lifting it, he cut a hole with a glass cutter, using a suction cup to remove the glass. Huh, Ginzo blinked when nothing seemed to trigger an alarm. Was the task force really slacking that much without him? He pocketed the gem.
All the glass cases shattered as a rain of bullets flew through the room. Ginzo cursed under his breath, barely missing getting shot as he dove for a floor vent that'd been unlocked the night before. He was in pain, but not the 'oh, I was shot!' kind of pain so some of the glass must have cut him.
Despite having entered the vents, he apparently wasn't very safe it seems. The inspector grimaced as a flaming piece of cloth and other flammable things were dropped into the vents behind him. Shit, were they trying to smoke him out?! The fire wasn't spreading but a lot of smoke was being produced. He clicked the emergency button to alert Kaito of his location before hurrying down a different route, grateful for the face mask that was covering his face.
They had the gem, mission accomplished, now all they needed to do was escape with said gem. It was harder than he'd expected it to be. It didn't help that more than just that one vent was apparently smoking. He would have been out of them by now if that hadn't been the case!
The sound of chaos surrounded him, echoing into the vents. People were running, people were screaming, guns were firing, and the vents shook occasionally, or at least he hoped that it was just the vents because what the hell?! The Crows couldn't seriously be using bombs right?! Ginzo just grit his teeth as he looked for a good exit, one that didn't lead into a main hallway. Hopefully he'd meet up with Kaito soon.
Suddenly being yanked out of the vents was startling, especially since he was currently a full grown man. Ginzo only just managed to stop himself from punching Kaito in the face "What now?" He felt too pressed for time to question how Kaito had so forcefully removed him from the vents.
"We run and don't get shot" Kaito nervously replied, having removed his Kid disguise and lengthened limbs. They were both covered in soot, and small traces of blood. The boy visibly trembled as he took Ginzo's sleeve and began to lead him through the smokey hallways "They're killing everyone they come across, we can't stay here" He felt sick, and the gem being so close wasn't helping.
The floor shook a bit "Why are they being so aggressive?!" Ginzo hissed as they ran. They were more subtle before.
"They really want the stupid gem" Kaito sniffed. Damn it, he can't cry now! "Snake said so" They paused at a corner, with Kaito peeking around it before they carried on.
"Snake?! Are you okay?" Kaito had tears streaming down his face but that might just be from the gem.
"He's dead"
"What?!"
Kaito forced his voice to sound calm "He was blocking me from getting to you" What was one more crime added to his list right? He choked a bit on his words "The staircase is there, we can go through a window after going down it" Ginzo couldn't fly a glider and he was not going to abandon him.
Ginzo spluttered, alarmed at Kaito's words. Fuck, Kaito would need even more therapy now... As if he didn't already need it in the first place. Before he could properly respond, he felt himself getting shoved as Kaito tackled him "Wha-" The inspector's brows furrowed with worry as Kaito seemed to slump against him, he snatched the boy up and ran before another bullet came for them "Kaito?" No response "Kaito!" Ginzo hissed, too busy to check on him.
"Yeah?"
Kaito's voice was soft. Ginzo didn't like it. He kicked a partially cracked window, cursing at the recoil that went through his foot. He ignored it in favour of ducking into a few bushes. They'd expect them to escape so hopefully they'd be passed over "Kaito, were you shot?" He got his answer when he actually stopped to look at the boy, he was bleeding a lot. A few more shouts alerted Ginzo of incoming danger "Hang on" There wasn't any time to treat Kaito.
Me: I cut a paragraph because I'm mean ^-^... My longstanding plot idea is finally being reached!
