They had returned to the church still standing and two kids passed out on the couch surrounded by popcorn, snacks, and pillows. The morning after both were complaining of sugar headaches and groggily wandered the cloister for hours nursing glasses of water and crackers. It would have been funny if Selever weren't being so annoying about it.

"Mom, is there any way I can get rid of this quicker?"

Sarvente set down the tax forms she needed to fill out for the last charity drive. "I already told you twice, you'll just have to grin and bear it out."

He flopped dramatically in his chair. "Moooooom, my stomach hurts though!"

She put down her pen. "Shouldn't you be practicing?"

"I uh," he said, looking sheepish, "I....might have thrown up this morning because I tried."

She sighed. "Did you at least clean it up?"

"Oh it was in the kitchen sink, it was fine." He groaned. "I'm out, I think I'm gonna puke again!"

He ran out, bypassing Ruv who had a sandwich and a glass of lemonade in his hands. Ruv looked after him, confused, before putting the plate and glass in front of Sarv.

  "What was that about?"

She thudded her head against the desk. "Don't ask. I think I need to take a break, this tax stuff is killing me."

He wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "If you want I can take the kids out and you can have some time alone. I know it's hard juggling the Church stuff and the kids."

She looked up. "You'd...really do that?"

He shrugged. "Why not? You deserve it." He rubbed her shoulder, and helped her stand. "Take a day, pamper yourself. I'll take them out and find something to do that'll make them forget their stomachs. Get yourself feeling like a person again, don't think about being Mom for a while."

He kissed her cheek. "I'll handle it."

----------

She had to admit, Ruv had been right.

Stepping out from the shower, she let out a happy little groan of pleasure. She'd set the water hot as it would go, and lathered up with scented washes and oils that left her fragrant and her skin soft. Her hair had been wrapped in a hair mask, something she hadn't had the luxury of doing since the kids showed up a few months ago. It now fell in gentle conditioned waves, featherlight and silky, around her shoulders and down to the small of her back. She hummed to herself as she massaged lotion into her skin, the heady scent of peonies floating through the steamy air.

Maybe she'd been too busy dealing with everyone else's issues that she'd been neglecting herself. As she pulled on her softest sweater and her favorite socks she pulled back her hair in a ponytail and stepped out, leisurely making her way to the kitchen.
