I have had Jointly from the MFM album on loop for the whole day now h e l p

Many thanks to Dotemms and the Hole People for convincing me that mental health breaks while I finish up these last few longer chapters is a-okay!

They awoke the next day in a tangled mess of limbs, hard to tell where he ended and she began. Ruv had his face buried in her hair, and as he woke the light of the overcast sky glinted off the ring on her finger and a fierce joy swept his heart.

Everything had come to this, and she was finally his.

He watched her eyelashes flutter before she woke slowly, blinking in the light. As she became aware of her surroundings he kissed her gently on the jaw. She hummed as she stretched and looked at her hand thoughtfully.

"This is real, isn't it," she asked, voice rough from sleep. He nodded.

"As real as that ring on your finger."

Her lips quirked into a smile. "How do you think the kids are going to react?"

He shrugged and stretched. "Dunno. We should probably go find out."

She snuggled into him. "Do we have to?"

He huffed and stood, pulling her up. "Unfortunately. We can go back to lie-ins when they're back in the future."

They walked out to the sitting room and into the kitchen, Sarv not bothering with changing just yet. Rasazy and Selever were at the stove making breakfast, Selever flipping bacon and eggs and Rasazy sticking toast in the toaster. When their parents entered the room, they immediately stopped what they were doing and looked at them expectantly.

  "So did you-?"

Sarv blushed prettily, and held up their joined hands where the ring shone in the light. Selever jumped in the air, suspended by his wings, and whooped while Rasazy ran forward to hug her mother.

"I can't believe you said yes!" She let go and smiled. "Well I mean, I can , but I'm so happy for you both! And just in time for the next jump!"

Sarv smiled down at her daughter. "I have a really good feeling about this one." She turned to Selever. "You confident?"

Ruv watched Selever square his shoulders. "Born for this, Mom."

And Ruv could almost believe him.

When Sarv was getting dressed, Ruv noticed her digging through the box she kept her jewelry in, watched as she pulled out a silver chain and slipped her ring off her finger and put it on the chain and around her neck.

  "What are you doing?"

She held the ring in the palm of her hand, looking at it wistfully. "I'd love to wear this around the church all the time, but it would look suspicious to the parishioners if I was wearing an engagement ring. I mean, they all think I'm a nun." She turned to him. "It'll only be until I finish the Mass and choir practice, and then it'll go right back on."

She walked over and stood on tiptoe to kiss him, her arms going around his chest as she did. "I know it probably bothers you, but you understand, right?"

He groaned and rubbed his face with his hand. "Yeah, I get it. I don't have to like it though. If I had my choice we'd have the whole world know."

She frowned at him. "It was your idea that I pretend in the first place, Ruv."

"Yeah and I regret that now." He huffed and hugged her, burying his nose in her hair. "Things are the way they are. I'll have to get used to it."
