Chapter Three: Black Bear Part 1
May couldn't understand why Kaida and Vera insisted they had to shop for new pairs of heels for the Black Bear. Both girls had loads of pairs overflowing in their closets. Turning, the corner which led to the Black Bear, May was only five minutes away from meeting Kaida and Vera who were waiting in their new stilettos.
That was when suddenly a young girl in front of May caught her attention. A glittery girl with dark hair- wait, she looks familiar. Oh didn't she help me out in class with a pencil, May thought.
The girl was definitely pretty in a glittery sort of way. All her life May had watched girls like that with scientific interest. Where they created in a lab? Why were they gifted such pretty eyes and hair and noses? Kaida and Vera were glittery girls, and this one in front of May right now was no exception. She was definitely created from the same gene pool as her best friends.
Then the girl fell as if someone had pulled a rug from under her.
With that May ran over the young girl and knelt beside her, "are you alright?" she asked.
"I'm fine I promise," the girl was trying to hide her emotions. She tried to sit up straighter and whimpered, her hand on her ankle. "Scratch that I am not fine," she said and held her hand out for May to lift her up.
May leaned forward next to her to help. The girl had shoulder-length well-cut dark hair and the faintest sprinkle of freckles across her nose. There was something aesthetically pleasing about freckles across her nose like that. It reminded May of a sunny day as part of her childhood. The brown woolen dress she wore also complimented her complexion immensely as if her whole visual was neatly coordinated to look like she had just stepped out of the scene of a movie.
May's resistance vanished entirely. She liked this young girl instantly and she wanted to help her.
"We need to get some ice on that straight away" said May. She knew enough about injuries from all the tripping she gets from her "two left feet" Kaida would describe her ankles that way. "And keep it elevated.""It's my birthday," said the young girl sadly. "My twenty-first!" she said a little too loud.
"Happy Birthday!" said May looking a little too enthusiastic for the young girl. It was cute that a person turning twenty-one would even mention their birthday.
She looked at the young girl's strappy shoes. Her toenails were painted a bright hot pink. The stiletto heels were as thin as the bristles of her toothbrush.
"No wonder you tripped," said May. "No one could walk in those shoes in this kind of weather!"
The woman pouted and then smiled at her bright hot toes, "I know but aren't they gorgeous." The woman turned her foot on an angle to admire her pointy shoes. "Ouch! Fudge balls, that hurt. Sorry. Excuse my language."
May merely smiled at the girl before her. How funny she was fudge was not a swear word May thought to herself.
"It's my birthday and I have sprained my ankle. Now I am definitely not going to make it to the Black Bear. I'm meeting someone there tonight," the young girl started muttering to herself as if she was trying to convince herself.
"Meeting someone? Black Bear?" May muttered under her breath to no one in particular.
"My name is Jasmine by the way" she sort of breathed her name. Of course, her name was Jasmine, a glittery name for a glittery girl. "I'm May. how'd you find the first Drawing Class today?" May said as they walked slowly in the direction of the Black Bear.
May stopped in her step, "wait shouldn't we be headed for a hospital or something?"
Jasmine went quiet for a moment and then shook her head. "No! I'm definitely going to the Black Bear tonight! This is my last chance to see him before I chicken out at graduation," she huffed as if frustrated.
