Chapter Seven: Have we met before?
It was Monday morning, and May was taking her usual route to her drawing class with Professor Julian. She was dreading this class all weekend, knowing he was going to be there. Sitting on the pedestal right in front of her!
"I could always change classes," May muttered to herself as she crossed the Maths building.
May glanced around campus and noticed how peaceful and quiet the place seemed to be over the summer. Not a single soul was around. "A ghost town," May thought.
She turned the familiar corner of the Cherry Café and headed for the Art building.
"May!" a familiar voice cried out to her from behind and May turned back to the Café to see who was calling her. She saw Felix standing outside the café, waving at her to come over.
"Oh hey," she quickly changed direction and walked over to the Café instead.
It was just after the morning rush so there weren't many people lingering inside or outside the Café. Just a few students in the booths and a few people waiting for their order near the front.
Felix greeted May with a smile and gestured for her to go inside.
"I'm not buying coffee Felix," May replied looking away.
Felix smiled, "that's okay I was going to buy you one" he said before grabbing her wrist and pulled her into the line.
With that May found herself standing beside Felix inside the Cherry Café. The heaters had warmed up the room and May welcomed the warmth. She had shivered from the apartment all the way up to the Café.
Inside the Café, May noticed a few of the students staring at her and noticed that they were staring at her because she was standing beside Felix. Their faces looked curious and their stares became unsubtle and obvious. Their hands were still interlocked, so she quickly tried to let go of his hold.
"No really it's fine Felix," May said reluctantly trying to remove herself from his hold.
He tightened his hold on her hand, "are you embarrassed?" he asked her. May gave him a pained look and gestured to their surroundings.
Felix looked around the café and then back to her, "just ignore them".
May bit her lip, flushed from embarrassment. This was not how she envisioned her morning going to be. She woke up that morning to grab breakfast with both her roommates and found them both already dressed and headed out the door to work.
That is when May realized Kaida was on her usual shift this morning. She scanned the front and found Kaida making the coffee orders near the espresso machine. She knew she was going to be interrogated later if Kaida spotted her with Felix.
They reached the front of the line and Felix began to place the orders, "I'll have an iced americano and she'll have... What are you having?" Felix glanced over at May who was trying her best to shield herself from the numerous people staring at them both.
"I'll have the same," May quickly said and Felix smiled.
At that moment Kaida heard her voice and looked over from her working station and saw May standing beside Felix with interlocked hands. She quickly stalked over and faced them both.
"May who is your new friend?" Kaida had started her interrogation. Great.
"This is Felix, we met him the other night," May said in a pained toned. Felix let go of May's hand to pay the bill and she quickly moved over to the side to allow others to place their orders. Felix followed her and they both stood beside the cake display.
