Chapter Fifteen: Warm and Lonely Hearts

The guys arrived an hour after we did. Luckily the Park manager was around and offered the spare cottage in exchange for the cabins since there was only one cabin left. The modern cottage was perched amongst the line of trees circulating the lake. The tall trees shaded the cottage from the sun and created a cool atmosphere.

The cottage had glass-paneled windows, hardwood floors, and high ceilings. There were four bedrooms in total. Vera and I shared the Master room, whilst Felix and Kaida were given their own and the remaining two single rooms were split amongst Chris and Hyunjin.

Kaida had gone off with Felix to pick up some extra groceries from the nearest supermarket. She was obviously avoiding Vera and I. We had our doubts about their relationship, but it was enough to see our best friend happy.

"I'm going to stroll around the lake," I tell Vera walking out of the cottage. I hear her mutter something about me ditching her to clean up. I giggle and quickly exit out the cabin and onto the footpath.

I walk for ten minutes before stopping to look back at the cottage. They looked so small from where I stood. It felt so serene out here in the woods surrounded by nature. I took a deep breath basking in the moment.

Thoughts of my graduation plans began piling into my head. I still hadn't decided what I was going to do after graduation. Would I move back home and help mom and dad with the family business? Should I apply for post-graduate studies? Should I look for work?

"Where are you off to?" I snap my head around to see Hyunjin jogging towards me from behind.

"Just taking a walk," I reply when he reaches me. "Join me."

He nods and we both walk in silence side by side around the lake. I looked over at him stealing glances. He looked really good today, with his thick padded black jacket and red beanie. His hair was tucked under his beanie and I could see a silver chain hiding under his thick sweater. I quickly looked away before he caught me checking him out.

"So how was your week?" I asked trying to fill in the silence.

He chuckled lightly, "you know May we don't have to talk. We can just walk in silence."

I nodded in reply and that's exactly what we did. We walked around the lake for an hour, wandering amongst the trees and gardens. It felt completely normal to do this with Hyunjin. For once, the silence wasn't defeating but rather comforting and peaceful. As our footsteps synced, my heart felt warm and my presence felt belonging, like I was exactly where I was meant to be, right next to him.

I glanced at him from the side and observed. His broad shoulders which were usually held back were now slouched slightly and hung on his body. His hair was disheveled as opposed to being styled and fell in tendrils around his face. I wanted to reach out my hand and brush them aside.

I sensed his head turn towards me and I quickly looked down at my feet.

"See something you like?" I felt my face turn a bright red at his words. 'Shit he caught me totally checking him out!' I screamed internally.

I laughed awkwardly and looked up to face him. "Of course not," I looked past him and pointed to a row of shrubs, "I thought I saw a bunny." I hope he buys this.

He raises his two eyebrows, "are you sure?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure..."

"May-"

"Hyunjin-"

He chuckles lightly and runs a finger through his hair. "I'm glad you invited me out, I know we haven't properly..."
