Chapter Six (BONUS): Jasmine's confession

Jasmine was leaning over the bar in her perfect strapless white dress and black thigh-high boots. Her dress made her figure look flattering even in this horrible light and her glittery make-up only drew more attention to her as she spoke to the bartender. There were now a group of guys huddled near the bar who had their full attention on Jasmine as she waited for her drinks.

The band began to pack up their gear and Jasmine got that as her cue to approach Hyunjin. She started walking in the direction of the stage when she spotted Hynjin near the back with Felix and Chris.

As she got closer, Chris spotted her first, "Jaz come over here, quickly". Her eyes lit up and she quickened her pace towards them, three huddled guys.  They towered over her even in her heels.

"We're just about to go get dinner, are you coming?" Chris asked. Typical Christopher always being the cordial and sweet one.

Jasmine was about to accept when Hyunjin cut in, "she can't stay out late, her mom will have my head for it, right Jaz?"

She was disgusted at his cut-in. He had always treated her as a younger sister when they were practically two years apart. This had to end. She was going to confess tonight, and he was going to see her for what she was.

"Actually," interrupting Hyunjin, "I'd love to join you guys for dinner," Jasmine interjected quickly.

Chris smiled, "sounds good".

"I just need to have a chat with Hyunjin really quick, would that be alright?" Hyunjin turned confused but shrugged anyways and led Jasmine out to the balcony.

Hyunjin and Jasmine walked onto the edge of the balcony at the far end where no one stood. If she was going to get rejected, might as well do it quietly.

Hyunjin slouched against the railings and looked out at the view. Jasmine stood next to him to match his posture. She took a deep breath.

"Are you mad?" she asked.

Hyunjin only shook his head, "No, should I be?"

Jasmine was confused, he seemed mad. "Don't be all serious now or I'll think you're about to say something weird," Hyunjin said.

She shook her head, "nothing weird, just honest".

He leaned in to hear what she was going to say. Hyunjin had always done this since they were kids. Whenever Jasmine wanted to tell him a secret or something important he would tilt his head and lean in real close so it was only between them. She loved him for that.

Jasmine took a deep breath, "actually I wanted to tell you something important" she paused. This is the big moment she thought. It's now or never.

"I wanted to tell you that I...I...." why couldn't she say it. Her stuttering makes her overthink and she can feel her anxiousness coming up.

"Take your time," he said softly, leaning in closer.

This gave Jasmine a bit more courage so she took a deep breath and started again. Shoving all the insecure thoughts to the back of her head, she blurts out without a second thought.

"I am in love with you Hynjin-shi" it was almost a loud burst and Jasmine's eyes were shut from embarrassment. But only for split second and when she opened them she found Hyunjin completely looking pale as a ghost.

Almost instantly regretting her honest confession.

He was quiet for a long time. "Please say something" Jasmine whispered unable to look away. She wanted to see his face, she wanted to know if he felt the same. She studied every detail of his face, trying to see what he's thinking or what he might say next. Her eyes were pleading and her eyes searched for hope.

He remained silent. The silence was just as tormenting, her anxiety was getting worse. Feeling her heart tearing into pieces slowly, she quickly added.

"I've liked you ever since we were kids. I thought you knew..." she trails off into complete silence.

The slight rush of the cold breeze made Jasmine shiver. She rubbed her arms from the cold and looked away. Her heart slowly breaking. How pathetic, Jasmine thought to herself, getting rejected in the cold open air.

Suddenly a warm leather jacket landed on her shoulders, concealing her shivering shoulders, it was Hyunjin's jacket. Jasmine looked at him, searching his face again for hope.

"Jasmine I," he paused and looked into her eyes.

"I don't think I deserve someone as sweet and innocent as you. You've always been a little sister to me and that will never change" Hyunjin's voice was the sincerest that I've ever heard from the whole 9 years I've known him.

He looked into her eyes with such sincerity, she was lost between breaking down or mentally slapping him for seeing her that way. Instead, she just froze in Hyunjin's sweet gaze, unable to form another word. It's impossible to hate him at this point, Jasmine thought. She faked a small smile and looked into Hyunjin's eyes. She felt weak in the knee's, wanting to just drop on the floor.

With that, he smiled lightly, ruffled her hair, and walked back into the bar.

Jasmine didn't know what she felt. She felt like she was going to break down at any second. But she was not going to do it in front of the band and everyone in the bar. How embarrassing. Everyone would be talking about it on campus the next day.

She promised herself she would not be one of those poor girls that cry over Hyunjin when he rejected them and here she was, about to shower over her cute new makeup. She turned and headed for the exit, keeping as far from the sight of the band as possible.

Jasmine reached the door and burst into the cold air. She ran and ran, unable to comprehend where she was headed. Tears streaming down her face. As her eyes get more blurry and she's started to puff out, Jasmine halts and rests her hands on her knee's, trying to catch her breathe. I just lost my first love.

Author's Note: @SakuraDreamzz commented:

Hyunjin is so sweet. But Jasmine's pain is a heart sore that is common. Falling for your childhood friend but they only see you like family... Tragic I must say.

Hope you silent readers are enjoying the story. I promise it's light and tangy on the heart.

Also, just to add, the collages I have put together are not direct references. They are just visually pleasing to the soul so enjoy them too!
