     "How about blue?"

"My mom would say no. Maybe she'd agree to dark red, though."

Boyd looked at the picture Luna showed him, tilting his head. "I don't know. It looks good, but for you, I'd go darker."

Frowning, Luna observed the girl on her phone closely. The girl did have paler hair than she did, and with Luna's closet, a darker colour would work better with her outfits. Saving the picture, she thanked Boyd and sent it to Tara. Hopefully, her mother would let her do her braids like this for a change. She wanted to switch things up and try something new. Red goddess braids were the move.

The bus came to a stop, Boyd standing up and letting Luna pass before him. She got off the bus and smiled at him before walking toward the school. Allison and Lydia joined her when she stepped inside, the latter complimenting Luna's outfit. It was simple, but the red top matched the black cargo pants well. Their interaction was cut short as Luna realized she had forgotten her math book and had to go to her locker. They parted ways, Lydia heading to class and Allison to see a teacher.

Tossing her bag inside her locker, Luna rummaged through her stuff for her math book. She didn't have it first period, but she didn't do the homework due for today and would finish it during Chemistry. Being a fast writer came in handy during exams. However, she groaned when she remembered handing the book to Isaac the day prior. Luckily, the boy was already at school and walking down the hallway.

"Sorry, I forgot to give it back after practice," Isaac apologized as he reached Luna's locker. "Thank you for helping me. My dad would kill me if I failed math."

Luna wouldn't know his words were accurate as she replied, "Don't worry. I was just scared you wouldn't — what the hell happened to your hand?"

Grabbing his hands, Luna's eyes widened at the dried blood on his fingertips. Isaac quickly hid them behind his back, an unreadable expression on his face. Questions left Luna's mouth as she asked if someone had done this to him or if he had gotten into a fight, but it seemed Isaac was at a loss for words. His mouth closed and opened until he settled on leaving the girl and rushing down the corridor.

Speechless, Luna stared at the spot Isaac stood in a second ago. Theories formed in her head as she remembered seeing those marks before. They weren't a one-time thing. Bruises weren't a one-time thing with Isaac. Luna didn't know the details of his life, but she hoped these marks didn't come from home. Unfortunately, it would explain the distant look in his gaze when his father picked him up from practice to the terrified one after receiving a poor grade. As her mother once said, you never truly know someone.
