When Luna got home, all she wanted was a shower and sleep. She slowly opened the door to avoid waking her family. The lights were turned off, except for the kitchen, and she assumed it was Tara and Hayley catching up. Taking off her shoes, Luna sighed exhaustedly as she stepped further inside the house. School books were left open on the coffee table, a card game spread above them. She cleaned things up so her parents wouldn't reprimand her in the morning before walking toward the stairs.

However, as she reached them, Marco appeared from the kitchen. Luna tensed when he asked her if they could talk. She desperately wanted to deny his request, but no matter how mad she could be, she knew never to refuse her parents anything. To them, it was a sign of disrespect and attitude. Turning around, Luna gave her father a tight-lipped smile and nodded despite the urge to crash in bed.

She realized neither Hayley nor Tara were in the kitchen, meaning Marco had been waiting for her. His gaze told her nothing good would come out of this conversation. Luna only cared that it finished quickly. She wanted answers, but not if it tainted her sleep.

"Dad, can we do this tomorrow?" she demanded. "I had a long night and—"

"You mean you had a long night with that Beta? Scott McCall, isn't it?" Marco interrupted, his features hardening. Luna's stunned silence was enough a confirmation. "How could you hide this from us? You know how dangerous bitten werewolves can be, yet you decided to handle this without sharing it with us. I thought you were responsible."

That angered her, but Luna remained calm. There was no need to worsen her case. "Okay, I'll admit, it wasn't my brightest idea, but I did handle it. What would you have done? Take him down? Threaten him? He needed me as a teacher, and that's what I did."

"And that's the problem, Luna!" Marco explained. He was never good with his temper. "You can't be a teacher when you can't control yourself. Don't you remember what happened three months ago on the full moon? Do you need me to remind you?"

"Of course, I don't!" she voiced, her tone raising. "I promised Jenna never to let a Downworlder on their own. I couldn't leave Scott to handle this without any help. I may not have the best track record recently, but I spent years learning self-control. You act as if I know nothing about it!"

"Because you don't!" Marco shouted. Luna stepped back in shock. "If you did, you wouldn't be using this side of you while playing lacrosse. You wouldn't need it to beat me in a fight. You wouldn't rely on it when your life is in danger. You wouldn't be like this!"
