Chapter 4

Carla pov:

The car stopped in front of the house and I slowly got out carrying the baby in my arms, the feeling was strange but not in the bad way, I mean I have held a baby in my arms before, but this was different, the child was mine, and she wasn't going anywhere and that's what made everything different.

Carlos was following me behind while carrying the baby's bags. I waited for him to open the door for me and I politely thanked him and walked into the living room, my eyes darted to the decorations in the house. I was shocked because I wasn't expecting all this. A big sticker on the wall stood out, on it was written welcome home, my little angel.

Matt came from the kitchen wearing a black polo shirt with white pants, holding a glass of water in his right hand. He took a sip before putting the cup down on a small table just near the kitchen door. When he saw us, he started coming to where we were standing. I gave him the baby before telling Carlos to put the bags on the couch.

“Did you do this?” I asked him, referring to the decorations in the living area.

“Not really,” He said, with a small smile on his face.

I furrowed my eyebrows,“What do you mean by that?” I asked, seeming puzzled by his reply, he is the only one who can tell the workers to do this besides me.

“You will find out soon, I would rather not ruin the surprise,” He answered with a bright look on his face, his eyes glued to the baby's face.

“A surprise?...Oh, I see what you are trying to do, you're trying to make me forgive you for refusing to go to the hospital with me earlier today.” I told him.

He finally glanced my way, I was beginning to think that the baby had taken all the attention from my husband, I don't know why I was bothered or maybe the realization of sharing my husband hit me. Though one thing is for sure is that I was willing to share him with my daughter, I just needed to get used to it, “No, but have you forgiven me,” He said while wiggling his eyebrows.

How could I say no to that,“How could I stay mad at you when you keep on wiggling your eyebrows like that,” I smiled.

He kissed me, after that he took my hand, telling me to come upstairs with him, whilst holding the baby with his other hand. Walking in the hallway, we stopped at the door of the first room to the right, he asked me to close my eyes, I was very excited to see what was on the other side of the room seeing that it's the one we picked for our baby, I wanted to see what he has done, so I did as he asked me to do. After he opened the door, we got in, then he asked me to open them.

When I opened my eyes, I was expecting to see the decor but instead my eyes fell on the most important people in my life, my mom and dad. It's been a while since I have seen them. They travel a lot, and we only get to meet once in a while. Tears filled my eyes and I quickly rushed towards them and threw my arms around both of them.

Matt's parents, Shanice and Reginald were also here, we exchanged our greetings, with them, I'm used to seeing them around. I was overwhelmed with the presence of everyone in the room. I was beginning to take in the surroundings of the bedroom when Matt's father distracted me.

“Have you decided on the name you're going to give her,” Reginald asked, looking from me to his son and back at me.

I looked at Matt, then back to my father-in-law. “Tiffany, her name is Tiffany,” I said. It finally felt right to go with the name my husband suggested. Perhaps I was holding on to the loss of Marie, and I was thinking of a way I could let her legacy stay. I saw Matt beam with joy, and I couldn't help but return a smile towards him.

“What Made you change your mind?” Matt asked, looking at me, eagerly waiting for me to respond.

“Let's just say, I had a re-think.” I told him.

“I'm glad that you finally agreed with me honey.” He said with a smug look.

We left the baby in her room with one of the workers, and we went downstairs to welcome some of our friends who came to see the baby. Many important people came to our house. Some came with gifts, which we took into the other rooms.

After everyone left the house, we spent the rest of the day talking about the baby's first word and how we hope to see her grow up. Matt and I began to argue about what the baby's first word would be, we finally agreed on waiting until that time comes.

We were all excited, our parents were also happy because they finally had a granddaughter, someone they could spoil with gifts and shower with love. I think being called a mother is the greatest gift any woman will receive in this life and I won't take it for granted.
